You cannot download the file? As in, you try but you can't find it anywhere on your computer? What "additional software" are you referring to that you installed/"loaded"? Is the problem actually that you can't open the file? Or are you trying to load (upload) the file onto a GPS device?

More Information Needed...

If you give more details about the problem, then perhaps someone can help solve it.

What happens when you try to download the file(s)? For example, is there an error message, etc?

Do you have a PC, or a Mac? Which browser are you using? What OS are you running?

By "rest stops" do you mean the Rest Areas Combined file located at http://www.poi-factory.com/node/6643 ? The file downloads fine on my Toshiba Satellite with Vista SP1 and either Firefox or Internet Explorer.

EDIT: I see clmathes has asked you some of the same questions...

When I clicked on down load

When I clicked on down load "Rest areas combined" it tried to down load but I got a message saying it did not recognize CSV files. It gave me some alternative software, can not remember what, that was suppose to fix the problem but did not. I am using a PC and Internet explorer. It appears that my computer does not recognize files with a csv extention.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Old man.

I switched to Fre Fox and

I switched to Fre Fox and was able to down load the files and install them on my Garmin 255.

Thanks for the help.

unrecognized csv files

CSV files are also associated with excel spreadsheets by microsoft in that you can save from excel into csv format. It may be that your PC associated files is not set correctly. Try that.

second solution is to look at GEEPEEEX from Hornby
http://geepeeex.googlepages.com/
which is a small programme for working with GPS files. Works extremely well and then you only need to download the GPX files which are associated with the editor.

(Incidently I use a Toshiba Satellite so I know the problem is with the association of CSV to excel.)

There must be something else going on with your PC. I have never had any problem downloading a file using IE.

It sounds like you selected "OPEN" instead of "SAVE".

That's the same thing I was thinking, but didn't state. Further, if MS Excel (or Open Office) isn't installed, then there may not be a file association set up for the .csv filetype, which would cause this symptom.
