Speed alert for POI loader

I'm a little confused by something when using the POI loader to load my red light and speed cameras. There are two things I need to ask about.

1. When I download the file from POI-Factory I usually see in column C the following type of info. Speed Camera 65 MPH .0275d. I do a find/replace in excel to change the items in column C to read Speed Camera @65 MPH .0275d. Is this the correct setting to have the GPS alert me when I'm traveling faster than the speed camera? Of should it be speed camera@65MPH (all one word)?

2. When I load the POIs the POI loader gives me two options for alert settings. The first one is "Alert when speed is greater than Alert Speed." It's set to 0 by default. But since each camera could have a different speed, should I leave it at 0 and select that radio button to get the GPS to alert me to when I'm traveling over 65 mph for a 65 mph speed camera?

The second radio button option, which is currently selected, is alert when I'm within 1969 ft of the POI. I like having the advanced notice, but I'd also like to know if I"m going over the limit for the camera.

I read the instructions on here about loading the POI as it's related to the red light and speed camera, but it didn't quite answer this question for me.

Can anyone give me some direction on this?

Thanks,
John

Yes I also wonder this...

Yes I also wonder this...

sorry

I believe the POI loader from Garmin can't have a different alert speed for each camera. Only do subscriptions from Garmin have this feature (also, warnings based on driving direction)

I bet your answer is

I bet your answer is here somewhere.

Alerts

The alert can be set by selecting the radio button in the POI loader (one speed all alerts) The second method is to type a number in the title of the folder.ie Redlight @65. If the name of the POI is followed by an “@” sign and a number, that number is used to denote the speed portion of a Speed Alert. The
associated default proximity distance is derived from this speed. This also sets the alert for all locations in the folder. I am not aware of any capability to alert for both speed and distance in one file other than the distance alert is activated at a distance based on the speed.

I do not believe the space is necessary, but my file has the space between speed camera and the @. The Nuvi will always alert you to a camera, the type of alert is what changes.

If there is no speed given for a particular camera, the default speed comes into play. If you are traveling faster than the default speed, you get the 'urgent' alert. The default I set in my unit is 25. Be aware, if a record (1 line in the camera file) contains an @[speed] this will have precedence and the default (if lower) will be ignored. The default is only for those cameras that do not have speeds assigned.

With POI loader, it is one or the other. You can set a speed default or distance default. A speed default begins to sound the alert when you are abut 36 seconds away from the alert point, so the distance is variable. For red light cameras POI Loader suggests approximately 1/4 mile (400 meters), but I set my distance for red light cameras to approximately 1/2 city block as a reminder to check for countdown pedestrian timers as well as preparing me in case the light is yellow or has been green long enough for the majority of the traffic to have cleared the intersection.

I have read this thread over

I have read this thread over and over. As I understand it (please correct me if I am wrong!!!!)it states you can have either a SPEED alert or a DISTANCE alert, but not both at the same time.

Do I have this correct? Is there any Garmin that allows BOTH?

Thanks!

.

If you have a speed alert set, then the distance is automatically set.

From the POI Loader Help File,
"Proximity alert distance calculated by POI Loader based on speed information in the file name or in individual POI names. This calculation uses the following formula:

Prompt Distance = 36 seconds * Speed. "

What I did for

I prefer to let the automatic POI proximity alert stay at default for the Redlight Cameras so with Speed on green enforcement, my Unit alerts me at the 400 meters (approx 125 yards) default.

I have renamed them CVS file it to a REDlight Camera.CVS for the 400M default. For the Cameras where I know the speed limits are set, I changed the information in column C. to Redlight XXKph XXXbound
I set it so when the RED ALERT BANNER pops up, Speed and direction show up at the same time)

it will show this in the Red Banner

Alert: Redlight 50Kph Eastbound

plus a Redlight Camera icon shows on side the road with an mp3 voice redlight ahead alert.

It gives me the Heads up and I adjust for the speed especially where there are speed drops in the area.
it took some time but it works for me.

Again this link that was given above by
arrow Mldorsey is excellent.

You must have been distracted in your conversion of meters to yards, and the wording for the next sentence. I'm not exactly sure your meaning, but I'm sure you meant csv (if they loaded).

Try this it works

As in my post I have spent alot time to get this to work just as you have stated so try this you'll like it.

Yes I was

Yes Bentbiker, I was distracted at the time, typed too fast to notice, CSV is what I meant,
proper conversion 400 meters = 437 yards

which should be time enough to slow down and ajust speed unless you are really flying ....

Only one nuisance so far, I get alerts when I am parking/driving in a shopping mall lot located next to a camera.

And thanks Ramcruzer, .
Being fairly new to this, I have learned alot from other members on this site and gotten great links to others.
