Everyday is a GREAT day :)

Here's what I found after

Here's what I found after updating on my 765T;

First the two areas that I had seen where the overlap happened in my area are "fixed" in that Garmin seems to have simply deleted shading for those two areas, leaving them white.

Second, while there are still shaded areas in other places, at least in my area many have been deleted and are just white now.

Third, they have combined the NT map and the 3D NT map together on the check list, meaning you must pick both of them or neither of them. Not sure if that is good - less choice is rarely good......

since I wasn't seeing the overlap...

...and haven't upgraded the map to 2009.11, I think I will hold off on both upgrades for now. rolleyes

v3.10 fixed nothing...

The map issues that Garmin are claiming have been "fixed" in 3.10 are in fact still there, just like in my screen shots from the other topic here:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20182/114129
Absolutely nothing has changed in this "update". I still have to use the old (original) 3D buildings map with the new v2009.11 map update or disable the new v2009.11 3D buildings maps to avoid getting totally blanked out map sections in the affected areas.

Still also not fixed is the lack of any traffic data closer than 6-7 miles from your current location as documented here:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20358

This bug affects the 7x5 series using the GTM 20, with either the free lifetime or paid-for lifetime subscriptions. The MSN Direct GDB 50 does not have this issue nor does the 7x0 series using the GTM 20.

Update

I agree with DorkusNimrod, no changes were made with 3D Map problem version 2009.11. Im thinking this problem can only be fixed with a new set of maps.

Is Webupdater problem fixed?

I just updated my 755T to 3.10. I have disconnected and tried webupdater a couple of times, with and without SD card. So far Webupdater has found my Nuvi. So maybe Garmin has corrected that problem even though it isn't listed.

Nope. Webupdater not fixed.

I spoke to soon. Tried webupdater several more times after 3.10 update. The problems of detecting the unit is still there.

WebUpdater/SD Card/USB problem...

The WebUpdater/SD Card/USB problem has not been fixed either. Running v3.10 with an SD Card in the nuvi, I still got a corrupted GarminDevice.xml file.

In the midst of typing this just now, I connected the nuvi to the USB port with an SD Card in the unit to check the firmware file sizes (I have 2.50, 3.00 and 3.10 on the nuvi) and AGAIN, got a corrupted GarminDevice.xml...

Firmware file sizes:
v2.50 13,592,348 bytes
v3.00 15,144,763 bytes
v3.10 13,875,852 bytes

Looks like buggy firmware "fun" has made it over to the 7x5 series too...rolleyes

I think I'm reverting back (again) to v2.50

map issues resolved

My map issues have been resolved.

When I initially ran the setup for the v2009.11 map update, I did NOT run "setup.exe" from the within the Windows folder in the installer package but rather the file "CNNANT2009_11_Update_ENU.msi" from within the IMG folder in an attempt to have the installer put the update on a drive other than C:. This method has worked before in the past but apparently this release requires running "setup.exe". After doing so and reinstalling the map update, the two mapsets (main detail map & 3D buildings map) are linked together and now work properly as has been reported by others here.

My issues with the GTM 20 and traffic reports with v3.00/v3.10 also seem to have been resolved by this...I'm now getting the same reported traffic incidents on all my units.

As far as the WebUpdater/SD Card/USB issue, I have not used the unit enough to verify anything.

SD card problem

What size and type of card are you using? I have a 2Gb Kingston and I am not having any problems like you are describing. I do get an occasional hang both with MP3 and without.

my SD card...

...is an 8GB Transcend SDHC, and have had no Webupdater issues at all with my 765T.

it came with 2.30 out of the box, and I upgraded to 2.50 and then 3.00 with no subsequent issues.

no immediate plans to go to 3.10.

unresolved issues...

My traffic oddities/errors have NOT been resolved.

Here's a link to a thread with screen shots:
http://forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php?t=11346#73433

As I've mentioned, this is only affecting firmware v3.00 & now 3.10 using two different GTM 20's, both with Lifetime subscriptions. Firmware v2.50 shows all incidents correctly as does using the MSN Direct GDB 50.

The WebUpdater/SD Card/USB issue has also NOT yet been resolved. Corruption of GarminDevice.xml is still happening under v3.10.

Webupdater - try hard reboot

After updating to 3.00, I had the same problem of neither Webupdater nor Mapsource being able to recognize my 755T. A hard reboot solved the problem. At least for me anyway.

--
Garmin Quest/Quest2/Nuvi660/Nuvi755T

hard reset is only a temp fix

Hard resetting or deleting GarminDevice.xml (for the unit to regenerate the file ) is only a temporary work around. As long as you have an SD Card in the SD Card slot on the nuvi, the problem exists. It may not happen every time but it will still happen again eventually.

Garmin's "fix" is to remove the SD Card from the slot before running WebUpdater...this is something that should not be a requirement.

Traffic problem clarification

AFAIK, the traffic problem only exists using the GTM 20 (with both the free lifetime Navteq Traffic -and- the paid-for lifetime TTN (Clear Channel) Traffic subscriptions) while using the 7x5 firmware versions 3.00 and 3.10. The maps used have no effect (AFAIK) on the traffic data problem.

FM Traffic:
GTM 20 + nuvi 7x5 firmware v3.00/3.10 = traffic data problem
GTM 20 + nuvi 7x5 firmware v2.50 = NO traffic data problem
GTM 20 + nuvi 7x0 any firmware = NO traffic data problem

MSN Direct:
GDB 50 + nuvi 7x5 firmware v2.50/3.00/3.10 = NO traffic data problem

I just received my new 785T

I just received my new 785T and after downloading the new NT 2009.1 map updates, my webupdater would not recognize my 785. I went into map info on my 785 and unchecked the maps (including 3D) and then my unit was recognized by webupdater. If I placed a check in the maps, the problem returned. I spoke with Garmin TS and Garmin software support and they told me they are trying to replicate it and see if they can find the problem. They said they would get back to me in a day or two.

hmm

Wondering if the traffic problem is limited to the 765T. I have not had any issues with the 755T using the GTM20 and having both Clearchannel and Navteq services.

As far as the webupdater problem, the xml solution provided no relief whereas the hard reset did.

Updating to 3.10 did not affect the ability for webupdater to recognize the 755T. Sounds like each unit is different.

Garmin Quest/Quest2/Nuvi660/Nuvi755T

this is very strange

my 765T is not having the traffic problem. rolleyes

I don't normally use the traffic search screen, but this morning, in an attempt to provide some feedback to the forum, and while on a route, after I received the traffic alert, I tapped the red traffic icon, and chose it.

The first entry showed traffic right where I was, about .6 miles ahead, so I am not getting the 6 or 7 mile entries as others have stated.

For the record, I have upgraded my firmware from the original 2.3 to 2.5 to 3.0, but have not gone to 3.1.

During my upgrade from 2.3 to 2.5, I went to the next screen of optional updates, and updated the firmware for the GTM20. Sorry, but I don't recall the number, but if someone wants to know, and can tell me how/where to retrieve that on my nuvi, I will post it here.

I can't say for sure, but I believe the option to upgrade the GTM20 firmware was there again, when I upgraded from 2.5 to 3.0. If it was there, I would have chosen it, and it did not appear as an optional upgrade after I checked following the 3.0 upgrade, and prior to the 3.1 being released.

In other words, following my upgrade to 3.0, the next time I checked, it said there was no new firmware update, and the GTM20 update was no longer one of the optional updates.

I am still using the original 2009 maps, as I was just outside the 60 day period for a free upgrade, when the 2009.11 upgrade was announced. So I don't have the map issues that others are seeing as well.

Any other 765T owners with the same upgrade history having my experience? rolleyes

WebUpdater

Is the WebUpdater problem supposed be solved if you aren't using and SD card?

Mine won't update whether I have a card in or out unless I do the hard reset thing.

According to DorkusNimrod (props)
Hard resetting or deleting GarminDevice.xml (for the unit to regenerate the file ) is only a temporary work around.

I have deleted the xml file once and not using the sd card while connected to the pc works for me.

Reinstalling your USB port Driver

Grush, this might sound crazy but have you tried uninstalling your pc's USB drive? You see I'm thinking if you uninstall them, when your system reboots it should automatically reinstall them and might solve your problem. Heck, I'm gonna try it.

It might be worth a try, but I don't think it's the drivers. Everything worked fine before v. 3.0. Let me know how it works for you.

Seems like it worked.

I went into my device manager and uninstalled the USB universal host controller and I uninstalled USB Root Hub (I had a few of them, don’t know why). I rebooted, XP aka windows found new hardware and reinstalled the drivers for me. Now when I can connect my 755t to the pc with SD card inserted, two little windows open and one of them is for the SD Card.

Tested POI Loader and Webupdater, both found my Garmin and SD Card.

Just an update - at this

Just an update - at this point my 765T updated (with webupdater) with the latest OS and maps is working probably better than ever. It still does random shutdowns, but no where near as often. When it does is seems to be because of POI's - especially when they are very close. Down the road one of them will flash on the screen quickly well past the point, and a shutdown will follow when I hit menu. But not all the time.

My traffic is actually working much better since the update. I do not have the problem of close notifications not alerting me that some do, and I get them quicker and possibly because they are quicker are more accurate as to time delay.

The new map definately does not show shaded areas as much, and every where the road was broken under the old map by the shading, it now has no shading there. A very large open field with woods is just no longer shown with green anymore.

When acutally on a route, you can not stay at the 120 distance - it will only go as low as 200. Pushing the + button will go to the 120 level for a second then go back. The button is still not greyed out, you can push it, but it does not stay at that level. That means there is only one level to see POI Icons when on a route, 200. I really wish you could go to 300 or more and still see POI icons like on the 760. I also wish you could see all the icons of everything in the area without having to go to the map that you can move around.

Never had the problem of updater not seeing the unit.

One other improvement, I noticed at times it seemed like your location on the map got delayed somewhat and turns were being anounced just past the turn point, especially on the highway. It seems like that does not happen anymore, but need more time to see.

traffic problem?

Can you explain better what is exactly the traffic problem with th e705 series?

So far so good, no problems

traffic again

I posted this earlier in the thread. Have a read since I've hashed through this numerous times already.

As I've mentioned, this is only affecting firmware v3.00 & now 3.10 using two different GTM 20's, both with Lifetime subscriptions.

Again (sorry for the redundancy), the 7x5 firmware versions 3.00 & 3.10 are not displaying traffic data correctly for me. The traffic incidents (accidents, road work, slowdowns, etc) displayed on the "Traffic Map" as green, yellow & red stripes & also the incident icons that are *closer than approx 6 miles* from your current position do NOT coincide with what is displayed on the "Traffic Search" screen and do NOT show up on the "Traffic Search" screen. What is being displayed on the "Traffic Search" screen only shows you incidents that are *further* than approx 6 miles from your current location.

Reverting the 765 firmware back down to v2.50 corrects this problem.

I own and have tested two different GTM 20's, one with Navteq Lifetime Traffic and one with TTN/Clear Channel Lifetime Traffic and they both have the same issue. The MSN Direct GDB 50 that I also own does NOT have this problem.

Using a nuvi 760 on the same two GTM 20s does not have this issue.

Another thing missing after update

The phone icon is missing on the map screen. Used to be there under the + and - button.

Phone Icon

Panache wrote:

I have the phone icon showing when I am on a call, which was the same thing I had on the screen prior to the update. Same with the music icon, shows up only when mp3's are playing.

WebUpdater Problem

I called Garmin today about the problem. Taking out the SD card doesn't work for me, nor does unchecking the maps. Either has starting WebUpdater as an administrator or giving it XP SP2 compatibility.

I got a live person very quickly, but he said I had to talk to software support and I had to wait over 30 minutes. The person I spoke to said she never heard of the problem. I sent her my GarminDevice.xml file and am waiting to hear back.

Will let you guys and gals know how it turns out.

I'm just wondering....have any of you tried uninstalling and reinstalling WebUpdater? That's something I haven't tried yet.
