Caretta Navigation Kit

Has anybody here heard of the Caretta Navigation Kit? It is new to me and I have often thought that there is a need for a dedicated navigation device that uses Android apps and has a dedicated mount.

This one is designed for motorcycles. It is not inexpensive, either, compared to Garmin. At 2,200 NITS it is bright.

Note: This is NOT designed for the US market. The cellular connectivity is for OCONUS.

For our Can Am Maverick UTV we use a rugged Samsung tablet with a RAM powered mount. I also have a Sonim XP8 smartphone that has a dedicated mount for it. Still, I welcome other choices.

Also, like Boyd pointed out, there are some rugged tablets for the drone community that would work well, too.

Looks pretty cool to me

Quite a beast when you include the shock mount, it shows about $920 USD plus whatever taxes. That is pretty much Garmin's price range for their off-road devices... isn't it? Of course, Garmin is selling their whole ecosystem, with access to specialized maps included.

2,200 nits is impressive! Have been very pleased with my m4 iPad Pro and 1,000 nit screen. I thought it was as bright as my old 7" Garmin devices - a DriveTrack 71 and DriveSmart 60 (identical hardware but the Drivetrack can use raster imagery). Anyway, finally charged those two Garmin's up and compared to my 1,000 nit iPad. I was sure wrong, the 7" Garmin screens are much brighter than the 11" iPad! So, I suspect those are also 2,000 nits or more.

Of course, you really need the brightness on an open vehicle, but I'm only using the iPad in the car and it's plenty bright for that IMO.

My guess is that they might have a hard time finding a large market in the US, but who knows? There are some other companies that sell dedicated GPS devices in other countries, but not here in the US. There's a company called TwoNav that has some handhelds that look pretty nice. Has probaby been 10 years ago at least, but I contacted them to see if they had a dealer in the US or could ship directly to me. They never even responded, but to this day my spam folder is filled with e-mails about the latest big sale on their products, LOL. mrgreen
