NU-MAPS

I have a nuvi 205 I bought

I have a nuvi 205 I bought in Jan 8th of this year and have the North American 2009 NT March 08 maps installed. When I go to the webupdater it says no new updates. When I go to the map update site on the garmin it tells me there's no new map updates for my device. I registered the device the day I bought it from BB. What gives?

Updates for the life of the unit, even if it's only a month?

My 780 gave up the ghost 30 days after I purchased it. Best Buy was awesome and replaced the unit so I did not have to wait for Garmin to send me a refurb or whatever they do. I guess whether the point of purchase or Garmin sends you a new unit in a case like this you would still be screwed for further updates. Has anyone crossed this bridge?

MyGarmin

If you have created an account on the Garmin site go to "my Garmin" , then click "Manage maps and downloads". You should see it there, and it should be Free as long as Garmin has you first acquisition date correct. Beyond that Garmin support should be able to help you, they are very helpful and even speak English.

Here is the link for some

Here is the link for some reason it got cut off from the above post.

http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/maps/numaps-lifetim...

Took me about 4 hours for the download.

It's showing my nuvi 205 and serial number but it is still showing that there are no new updates for my device. Looks like I'm going to be giving Garmin tech support a call tommorow. Thanks for you help.

Thanks

Thanks for the link!

Is

Mapsource part of this huge download? I noticed someone making mention (rumor?) to that effect.

Thanks.

nuMaps Compatible with SP2720?

Does anyone know for sure if the nuMaps Lifetime is compatible with the Street Pilot 2720. Even though it uses City Navigator North America NT, this model is not listed on Garmin's website as being compatible. I also want to buy the updates for my SP 7200 which is basically the same as the 2720 but would hate to buy two lifetime updates only to find out they won't work with my devices.

no, but you can have it

uber360 wrote:

Mapsource is NOT part of this download. However, if before you install this download you download and install Training Academy you can then download and install Mapsource without needing an older version. And then when you install this map update it will see that you have Mapsource installed and load the new map there too, so you have Mapsource with full street coverage, not just the minimal base map.

I think there is another way to do this too, but I want to try it before I tell others to do it here.

See this post

See this post http://www.poi-factory.com/node/13748 that covers installing Mapsource.

More than one map guarantee update possible?

I've read that there were some issues with the first 2009 update (2009.1) so Garmin issued a revised update (2009.11). I'm eligible for the "new purchase guarantee" update but does anyone know what happens if I download the current one and Garmin issue a further revision within 60 days of purchase e.g. 2009.12. Would I be able to download that one as part of the "new purchase guarantee" map update, or would I have to buy the "lifetime" option? If the latter then it may be worth waiting until day 59! smile

2009.1 maps

just got off the phone with garmin and found out what the .1 is and is a 3 month update and the 2010 update will be april 1 a and that will be 2010 it will go by quarters the min is 4 downloads but the can and will be more then just 4 a year like 2010.1.1 etc so the min is 4 and i found out about the life time updates it says with the unit so if you upgrade make sure you give the unit to a family member so you can up date it for them if not you won't get the updates

nuvi 5000 and nuvi 200w

The maps are locked to the unit so you can't copy from one unit to another.

right

they tech said that if you have the life time up date and you upgrade your unit and give the unit to a family member just update if for them you will still have to pay another 119.00 for another update but you can still up date the other unit for your family member if they try to reg the unit that will void the life time update

Garmin site exp problems with new map updates

Just got off the phone with Garmin and the CSA told me that they are experiencing problems with some units that are qualified for the new 2009.1 update. He stated it should be fixed within 24 hours so anyone with a 60 day or less activated unit can get the update for free through webupdate or through my garmin map updates.

re: One Heads Up About The Download

I had problems too. Before I started the download I accidentally closed the software. Then when I tried to download it again, it said that I already had the newest software. When I clicked on download again, it just went to the same page and said the same thing. Finally I quit Firefox and opened Internet Explorer which let me download the file. Whew! Make sure you get it right the first time!

Hi rahool.. What's the version of the map you're downloading? I also have the 265WT and today it also finally showed I have a new map update (ver 2009.1 update). I'm at work right now so haven't started downloading it yet.

I'm debating to hold off until almost at the end of my 60 days (which ends at end of next week), in case there's a bug fix for the map. I'm seeing people with 2009.11, and some have mentioned 2009.12 is in the works (but I don't know how true that is).

Follow up: My Mapsource question posted above:

I asked Garmin about Mapsource and this huge download. He told me that contained within the download is something called "MapInstall". He said you can download the latest version of MapSource for free assuming you have MapInstall installed on the computer. He provided me a link to the MapSource download page @ Garmin.

I thought this was very decent of them - - I wasn't that keen on paying $10 or $15 for MapSource.

HTH.

2009.1 Map Problems?

I just happened to see on another forum that some people are saying there are problems with the new 2009.1 maps from Garmin, and that Garmin is aware of this and will issue a fix for them on the next quarter release. This may put people in a bind who have the 60 day free upgrade and can't wait until the next quarter for a "fix".

Has anyone who downloaded the latest 2009.1 maps experienced any problems with them, or are they working good for you.

Thanks!

Hi redvino1963. I have the 265WT and have also read about the problems. The only map upgrade I see in my account is for the 2009.1, not the 2009.11. But the only problems that I recall off the top of my head seems related to the 3d building feature for the 7x5 series. I'm hoping since the 2x5 series don't have the 3d maps, the 2009.1 map upgrade is ok. Once I get home, I'll probably be debating whether to update my 265WT to the 2009.1 map or wait until almost the end of my 60 days to see if a fixed map upgrade is available.

there clearly are some

there clearly are some problems. One of the guys did some screen shots of what he's seen so far. You can see them over at the "other" GPS forum. They've got an entire thread going.

Mapsource

is installed and appears to be fully functional. However, I had to download the entire map update program again and "re-install" the 2009.1 map update a 2nd time before MapSource would install. I was getting a warning message about a previous version of MapSource had to be present (which I didn't have).

I did press the button but nothing is happening and the download manager wont start...what can I do now???

There is another link near the bottom of the download page that will let you do the download without using the download manager.

When the popup window came up did you allow the install of the download manager software?

Hello rjrsw:

The problem is that I don't get the "popup window to allow the install" and then proceed to installation, so how can I do it then???

.

Just look on the page for the blue text link to do it without download manager. I remember seeing it near the bottom left of the page.

Popup Blocker?

FR,

Just a thought. Do you have a popup blocker or other security software running that's blocking the download? Even Internet Explorer (if that's what you're using) blocks Active X and other downloads (when set on default security) but lets you continue if you click the yellow bar that may be appearing at the top of the browser window.

I had a problem similiar to yours. Before the Active x would install I had to click on the message at the top of the screen and allow for the download. Then had to click on my popup blocker and allow popups for this site. Not sure which one done the trick but it worked after that.

Hope this helps.

Thx for the reply. Yeah, I downloaded and updated the map last night. On the way to work, everything looks the same. I haven't really tried to see whats wrong, but feels good just to have the latest map.

Btw, one confusing thing is it looked like I was downloading the 2009.1 file. After I updated the 265WT, in my.garmin.com account it says I have the 2009.10 map. But when I checked the map version on the GPS, it says it has the 2009.11 map.. lol. But as long as the maps are updated, its good enough for me.

They have messed up on the numbers, i guess. I checked my maps before i updated and it showed 2009.10 for sure and now it shows 2009.11. This update sure made my GPS worth every penny as in Raleigh,NC and triangle areas there are always new developments and this update covered almost all the NEW places where I knew someone!!! and all the addresses showed right up. I am very happy with the update for now! smile. Any errors, I will keep posting here!!!

I noticed the same thing. My Garmin page showed a download for 209.10 but after downloading to my unit it showed 209.11.I email Garmin about this and this is the answer.

I would be happy to help you with this. The two were realesed very
close together and for some reason in the my garmin accounts the 2009.11
is showing up as 2009.10. It is an error in our database that IT has
not corrected yet. It will have no ill effects on you or your ability
to update in the future its pretty much a typo. Please let me know if

Improvements

The improvements in 2009.11 look promising. I'm hoping that now that maps are being updated quarterly, Navteq works on improving and shortening the time frame that streets and POI's are updated.

i did update my nuvi 265wt

I have a new Nuvi 360 and went online yesterday to obtain the updated 2009 NuMap & had similar problem with my computer not seeing the device. I ended up stopping the device and re-plugging it into the computer and then waiting until the screen on the Nuvi showed it was syncing with the computer.
