it is probably too early to ask this, but I will throw it out there anyway, and hope that it attracts response as experience and miles are gained, and the thread grows.
have any of you noticed if the new map upgrades have increased the number of Junction View screens, and 3D Building views?
I have not yet upgraded
I have only seen one Junction View screen here in the metro Pittsburgh area, and the 3D building view, while more prominently displayed, seems random at best as to what buildings appear. This is with the 2009 maps that came with the unit that I purchased last November.
.
I posted this in another topic but it seems to have gotten lost in the noise...the larger file sizes I've listed below indicate that new junction views along with new 3D buildings have been added.

yeah, I missed that
the file size comparison definitely shows it
thanks for restating it here

question for any 7X5 owners who have grabbed the new map updates
Living 100 miles from a large city I have not seen that, however I was surprised on how long it took to install. The dl was about 40 min or so, and the total install time was probably the same thing. I did notice that I lost all my recently found. Satellite find was quicker and with a stronger signal though.

I just updated the maps last night and will be taking it for a spin today. I’ll be sure to post any additions I may find.

Hello… I live in the Detroit,MI area I just updated the maps a few days ago. I have only seen the 3D buildings once when I first got the unit 12-15-08. But the Junction View is very active (Two to Three times each ) whenever I’m plot and drive to a location. So far around here it’s about the same. 755T

How are you getting map updates? Did you sign up for the lifetime maps?

I updated my new 765T with the new map upgrade 2009.1, a couple of days ago. Took me 4 hours to dl and install with my cable connection. I haven't noticed any new junction views or lane assists but then again, I live in Phoenix and we don't have too many complex interstate exchanges.
thanks for the feedback everyone
I hope to hear more in the upcoming weeks

Inventory screen still shows "Error" for Junction View status
I upgraded my 755T to software version 3.00 and the maps (nuMaps Lifetime) to NA 2009.11. The Diagnostics Inventory screen still shows an "error" status on Junction View as it did before the updates. I have not found any new lane assists or junction views in my area so far. Will keep searching.

Junction Views
I haven’t noticed any new Junction Views yet, of course I could just be in the wrong area. I guess I need more time as my trips are always anyone’s guess. (cab driver here).
I did notice that a golf course about a mile away from the house is now just a blank open space on the map rather than a green shaded area that appeared before the map upgrade.

seems like with the golf course, the map is a downgrade

What I don’t get is that the map of the golf course looks correct on MapSource yet on my GPSr the golf course area is blank. I even tried transferring the map from MapSource and no luck. I’ll see if I run into any more small setbacks.

errors found in 3D map...
Try disabling the 3D map and see if it resolves the issue. I have massive blank data areas here in the So Cal area and it seems the 3D map is the culprit. Disabling it on the unit clears up the missing data areas. The previous 3D map does NOT have this issue.
**Edit: seems some parks & Indian reservations are the sections that are getting blanked out.
Seems sloppy coding is becoming the norm for Garmin.

Map Upgrade
I live in a rural area and have never had a chance to try Junction View or 3D Building View yet. I'm going to try to head down to Milwaukee, Chicago, or Minneapolis soon to test.
I have noticed that some businesses in my area are now shown when they weren't on the previous map or in the correct location when they weren't on the previous map.

I've read the other threads and I plan on calling Garmin to see if what fixes they may have for this if any. Thank you for the info, I’ll try disabling 3D mode in the meantime and see how it goes.

update for 755t
I downloaded the other night also. have not used yet but will update you if I notice any problems. It did take several tries and my wife to get it correct, and it took a couple of hours.
Disabling 3D View
I tried disabling 3D view and went with track up today. The results are the same, still seeing some blank areas. I have the original 2009 backed up on CD but for now I might wait it out a bit and see if Garmin decides to update 2009.11 with a fix. Thank you for your help and ideas.
Edited:
I forgot to mention that quite a few streets located at JFK airport that are accessible to the public are now missing. The street names and numbers appear but the roads are now gone. For example trying to locate Citibank (40.64663,-73.80079) at JFK or the Cell Phone Parking Lot (40.65608 -73.80966) area is just a blank area with no roads.

confusion between 3D map view & 3D buildings...
I tried disabling 3D view and went with track up today. The results are the same, still seeing some blank areas.
OK, there seems to be some confusion here...
I was *not* referring to disabling 3D map view to correct the blank map areas...
I am talking about disabling the *3D buildings mapset* on the unit. This is what is causing the map display problems. To disable the 3D buildings map, touch Tools>Settings>Map>Map Info and uncheck the CN North America NT 2009.11 3D mapset (or use the previous mapset that came preinstalled on the unit if you have a backup of it)

I have read your post this morning and I did disable the 3D buildings map. Your suggestion did work. I got certain roads back along with the golf course nearby. Thank you!
Question:
Do you think I can use the new map (2009.11) along with the original 3D building map (2009) (that came with my GPSr) together?

Yes, that is one of the work-arounds I mentioned at the end of my last post and is exactly what I am doing. If you have your previous version of the 3D Buildings map (gmap3d.img v2009), use that older 3D Buildings map along with your new 2009.11 main detailed map.

My Adventure:
After playing around with both 2009 and 2009.11 maps this is what I experienced.
If I remove the 3D map 2009.11 and install the original 3D map 2009, I get the roads back but the golf course and some parks are blank. So now the 2009.11 map blanks out certain golf courses and parks until I go back to the original 2009 map. So that means both maps have some type of errors on them. I tested this outcome twice to be sure of what I was seeing and geez, I’m really surprised that Garmin would release such a map set to the public.
I guess it’s up to the user to decide if it’s a keeper. I’m going to stick with the original map set I had backed up.
Glad this was a freebie upgrade map for me and not something I paid for.
