the map available now is the same update map 2009 version

Checked the site but the map available right now is the same update map 2009 version (shows as 2007 map database on the view map option) I received when I bought the 760 in June. I signed up for an email notice when a newer map than the one I have is available. At this point there is no reason to do anything.

It will be an entire new mapset and it will be a little over 2GB's. This map version 2009.1 was just released today so it will be more up to date then your current maps and POI's.

From Garmin's spec sheet for lifetime maps, you need up to 6GB of free space on your computer for the download and installation so it appears that you're downloading a complete new version of City Navigator and not simply running a patch on to your existing map.

Garmin does suggest that after running the update on your GPS, you can free up to 6GB of space on your computer by deleting the update file that was downloaded.

First date not accurate

The "first satellite connection" date shown is often VERY wrong. In the case of my 760 the date showed as being before the unit was even available for sale. The changed it for me and I was then able to get the free update to the 2009 maps so don't just accept some bogus date if you don't agree with what is listed.

Downloading now.

2009.11

I just installed this to my 205w and it now says CN North America NT 2009.11 in my map info screen. It also updated my mapsource but it says 2009.1 and it never asked for any product key or anything. It all seems to work fine so I am not going to worry about it.

Same

Shows the same info on my 680 and mapsource. Agree that it appears to be nothing to worry about, just a typo sent to our GPSr.

CN NA NT 2009.11

Just got this baby installed (free update for nuvi 760 Xmas present). Installed size 1.065GB (47.8MB larger). Still plenty of room for growth on the 760.

This is taking a while!

I see that it attempts to update to firwmare 4.60. People should be aware of this.

--

4.60 firmware

It doesn't try to update to 4.60 if you have already updated to 4.80 does it?

I haven't tried to download the map yet (I am eligible for the free update, though), but I would hope it would give you a chance to decline the firmware update if you are already past that version.

Painless, minus the $120

Just completed the process. Takes about half an hour to download the update and at least that long to extract and install on unit. Give yourself an hour and a half to complete the whole thing, depending of course on your DL speeds.

Thanks...

Will download and see..

Early update

I wonder if there will be a 2010 map in May making this update a relative waste of money.

Does 265WT have any updates available? I went on Garmin's website and shows NO UPDATES AVAILABLE. But my 760 shows updates available. I Don't understand whatz up with that? question

Can anyone confirm if 265WT does not have update available?

I'll Wait!

If the 2010 release is just around the corner there's no point in spending the money now.

No update for NUVI 265T

I must to have been on the phone to GARMIN when Charlie was. Garmin told me, also, that they would email me when the software would be ready for an update. I bought my unit DEC. 8 Th and they checked and said I was good for go on my end. The tech said the software that downloads still needed some "tweaking" to allow units to get updates. When it is "fixed" I will get an email from GARMIN.

I checked that out yesterday but the map data is from the Navteq 2007 map data and doesn't show the new map data that was just made available. I asked someone with the new data map to check out a address and street that does not show up on the demo coverage map but it does show on the newly downloaded 2009.1 map version.

"it is for one user and one unit. Non transferable"

I sent the following email question to Garmin tech support today:

"I have a question about the new Garmin nüMaps Lifetime North America Map Updates that became available yesterday. I understand from what I have read that the lifetime updates will be tied to one individual GPS units serial number. If I were to purchase the lifetime updates for my 760 and then later either sell or give away the 760 would the next owner still be able to continue to receive the lifetime updates for that same serial number GPS unit?"

This was the response I received from them:

"No it is for one user and one unit. Non transferable.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International:"

So it seems that if you sell it on Ebay or Craig's List later you can not advertise it has lifetime map updates.

Notice Some Improvements

I've noticed a few improvements around me. The local market is now in the right place, instead of where the Tall Timbers Grocery is. Also a bank was now in the right place.

It still doesn't have our local convenience store, which is the only one for miles around, and has been there for years.

One Heads Up About The Download

Well, that was easy 'except' I shot myself in the proverbial foot that caused a bit of a delay.

After downloading the file (about 20 minutes) I turned off my Internet connection so I could also turn off my virus detection program and not worry about warnings. And then the machine just sat there...and sat, and sat. The downloader wouldn't close, the machine appeared to be locked up. I rebooted, ran the map download manually and much the same thing happened. It wasn't until I turned my Internet connection back on that a window popped onto the screen telling me the files were being extracted. After that everything went smoothly.

As with several others who've mentioned it I wasn't asked about the activation code for my 760 but then (just curious) I plugged in my 660 to see if the map would load. That's when the window popped open asking for the code. When I provided it I was told that code was assigned to a different unit.

So, be forewarned, keep the Internet connection and don't bother trying to load the map onto another GPS that wasn't eligible for the download.

Cheers smile

Map update

If you choose the disk for your update, you will be getting the 2009 update. The lifetime download will allow you to recieve the 2009.1 update. This is just something to be aware of. Your "downloaded" updates will be much more current than the disks.

Download and update complete

Whew! Had to call GARMIN after they sent me an email that my account was ready for update. It wasn't. Anyway software tech helped me install update. No problem. They first OKed my old GPS for the update not the new one.

Found quite a few changes to the local area. All the changes for the better. Many corrections. New items/POIs. Happy with the update. Only one problem left - now need to update Mapsource on my other computer. The update went well on the first computer.

Happy camper/GPSr now.

Got mine today too, after help from Garmin support (the site didn't recognize my Black Friday nuvi was in the 60 day window). Didn't think to check the built-in POIs until I saw your post. Sadly I see that my local missing POIs still seem to be missing (such as a close grocery store that opened about 3 years ago, even though they include other POIs for the same chain). Still, at least I have the most current maps now available, which I'm glad of since I'm not intending to buy any updates considering how little I paid for the GPS and how much a single map update would be (makes more sense just to buy a new GPS when you think you need an update for the low end units).

NU-MAPS

I just opened the box to my nuvi 785T about a hour ago and it's charging now. I'm pretty sure the map is 2009, how do I update to 2009.1? I'm a novice at these things.

Found it--

The Garmin site says that the "lifetime" is up to four updates, or the USEFUL LIFETIME OF ONE GPS UNIT.

So, what I need to know....
My Nuvi 880 is already discontinued. What would be the expected "useful lifetime" of a discontinued unit?

And, since the refurb unit which came to me does not show it was given the updated 2009 version which my previous original unit DID have in it, am I entitled to get this sucker updated for free?

You know, I don't think I will be spending any more money on the 880 given that they are not keeping it alive. Sort of gets me down, sad to say.
