Sunday was the 84th anniversary of Pearl Harbor
A little known Navy tradition is any surviving crew member from the U. S. S. Arizona, upon death, could have their ashes interred on the Arizona which is under the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Divers, one of which I met many years ago, would make quite an effort to reach the personal space of the deceased and spread the ashes in that area. As I was told, it was the final effort to have the deceased join his shipmates. The tradition has ceased as the last Arizona survivor passed last April at the age of 102
FYI, some quick research indicates that about 12 or 13 individuals that survived the Pearl Harbor attack are still alive.
