WebUpdater versus Garmin Communicator Plugin

I am confused about the uses (and differences) between the 'Garmin Communicator Plugin' and the 'WebUpdater'. :?

When I went to the Garmin site to register my new Nuvi 255, I was informed that I needed to download and install the Garmin Communicator Plugin. I did as requested and proceeded with the registration. The Plugin software caused a download and further installation of what appeared to be updated map and operational software. When I finally received the verification of being Registered, I was also informed that my unit was updated.

So, does the Plugin application perform a registration and an update of my Nuvi 255 Maps? Or, do I still need to download the WebUpdater and get the newer information?

WebUpdater versus Garmin Communicator Plugin

you need the webupdater to run software and voice dates and the garmin communiator plugin is for so you can install voices or cars off he garmin website and you are able to down load poi's from google maps etc so you need both webupdater and communiator

Communicator also allows you to download favorites from web mapping sites.
