Custom POI & Favorites issue on Garmin 670 (not 760)

Hello there,
I need some help with my Garmin 670 (not 760!). I have 2 problems:

1) I tried to add new Custom POIs via POI Loader. However, despite following the directions diligently from this site (http://www.poi-factory.com/node/8536), my Custom POIs do not appear! Not only that the Custom POIs that I tried to create appears under my Favorites!

2) I tried to batch-delete the long list of POIs under my Favorites, but despite deleting the current.gpx file and doing all sorts of things (reset, use MapSource, etc), I still can NOT batch-delete the long list of Favorites!

I have called Tech Support, but they cannot replicate this problem on their GPS. Can someone please help?

Much appreciated!

.

Note that any gpx file placed directly onto the gps will be added to your favorites. POI files should be downloaded to your computer and loaded to the gps using POI Loader. The Current.gpx file is only a copy of your favorites -- not the actual database; deleting it has no effect -- it is rebuilt every time you boot up.

As for removing the extra favorites, Bandaid previously posted:

Do this on the 750:
1. Click on tools.
2. Click on the bottom right arrow and select My Data.
3. Select Delete Favorites.
4. You can select which Favorites to delete or have the option to select all.

will start off anyway

They wont show up under the favorites if you load them with the poi loader, they will show up under the extras button then custom poi, (I load mine all to a s/d card that way i can manage them better)

To delete your favorites, connect the unit to the computer with the usb cord, then under my computer navigate to the nuvi, then to the .gpx and the current folders, delete them . that should get them off the nuvi.
this should at least get us started.

Yeah, it sounds like you are storing the GPX files on your SD card or on the unit itself.

You need to keep them on your computer.

thanks

thanks bentbiker!

i tried your approach, and it does not work. i do not have a 750; I own a 670. sad

hi motorcycle mama, i have

hi motorcycle mama,
i have tried to delete the gpx files from both the SD card and the Garmin unit itself. it still does not work! I even deleted the gpx folder per another recommendation and my favorites are still there.

Your OP said that you had a 760, so I based my response on the fact that the 750 and 760 are basically the same. If you have a 670, I believe the easiest thing is to do a hard reset and delete all of your favorites and start over. You can use Mapsource or EasyGPS to clean up your favorites, but I'm questioning whether that would work out for you.

If you press the lower right hand corner of the screen while turning on the Nuvi, you will get a pop-up window -- if you press "Yes", all your favorites will be deleted.

Yeah, you need to do a hard reset to get rid of them once they've been loaded into your Favorites.

Simply deleting the current.gpx file won't do it.

Then, ensuring that your Custom POI data files are not on the unit nor on the SD card, you will need to reload your Custom POIs from your computer using POI Loader.

hi bentbiker!

i've tried your suggestion and everything else, those darn favorites are still there! maybe i just have to delete the 400+ favorites one by one.... sad

I got the Custom POI to work though! I initially did not know that I actually have to do one more click/select of "Custom POI" in order see the categories! (I thought it didn't work bc below "Custom POI" there were no lists or categories.

?

Did you ever remove the gpx files on the unit (and card). If not, every time the gps turns off, the gpx file is rewritten to the favorites.

How To Backup, Delete, And Restore Favorites

The following steps were performed on my Garmin Nuvi 660 to backup desired favorites, clear ALL favorites and restore backed up favorites:

I - BACKUP FAVORITES

1) Open Garmin Mapsource.
2) Go to Tools \\ Receive From Device, you should now see your favorites under the Waypoint tab
3) On the Waypoint tab select undesired Favorites and delete them.
4) Go to File \\ Save As and backup the .gdb to a desired location.

II - CLEAR ALL FAVORITES

1) Hold your finger on the upper left corner of the screen on your unit press the power button to turn the unit on. Keep your finger in that corner!

2) After several seconds, it will ask you if you really want to start in "maintenance mode". Hit YES.
Select Clear Waypoints.

III - RESTORE BACKED UP FAVORITES

1) Open Garmin MapSource and open your backed up file.
2) Go to Tools \\ Send To Device and send your favorites...

ALL DONE!
