What's wrong with my 750?

Loaded up some POIs, just like my old 650, with MP3 files and all, but my 750 isn't using the MP3 file. It just gives a double tone and shows a banner. What's with this? How do I get it to use the MP3 files. And, yes, all files are named EXACTLY the same, except for the file type.

Double check to ensure that you didn't accidentally create a double file extension when you renamed the file.

Checked again...

Nope. Matter of fact, I used the same files I used for my 650, but I did check again. All named the same.

I must say, I've had more "problems" with this 750 than I had with my 650....

wrong place?

The 750 (on my computer) looks different than my 650 did. I have a GPX folder in my 750 that I didn't have in my 650. I put the POI files in the POI folder, that is correct, isn't it?

No, you need to LOAD everything to your GPS unit using POI Loader. The MP3 files must be located on you computer in the same folder as the corresponding Custom POI file.

Same Problem

I have had the exact same problem with 2 different 750's I have gone back and checked the files a dozen times and the mp3 files still do not work. I could see it being a file name problem if it was one alert but none of the 6 or 7 alert files work on my 750. I have always used POI Loader. BTW they all worked on my 350 and there have been no changes to the files since.

Using POI Loader?

You ARE loading them via POI Loader, right? Put the poi files and the mp3 files in the same folder on the computer and use POI Loader to send them to the unit at the same time.

I am no Newbie

It seems that we both have experience with GPSr and since the files worked on previous units and at least in my case the files are exactley the same including the folder they are in etc...

Proximity Alerts On?

Do you have Proximity Alerts checked?

Tools -> Settings -> Proximity Points -> Change -> check "Custom POIs" -> OK

.

To the OP, since you are apparently getting the default alert, it would seem that the alerts are set up correctly.

So, what I would try is to either redownload the MP3 or try a different one.

If that doesn't work, I would backup the Favorites and Routes to your computer and then do a hard reset on the unit and then reload everything.

ON

Yes it Proximity Alerts are on

YES

Same here, I used POI Loader on everything, all from the same subdirectory and all were on my 650 with no problems, and they all worked!

I'm really bummed out that I spent MORE for the 750 and I'm really leery of it now.

i dunno, it seems like only

i dunno, it seems like only people copying them from older models are having this problem, i have a 760 and never had a problem.

Maybe try re-downloading the poi's and mp3's?

Some are old, and some are

Some are old, and some are new. I'm baffled. And disappointed.

POI Loader Version

Are you using the current version of the POI Loader?

POI LOader

Not sure. Can't find a version number on it. I guess it's from last winter. Is there a newer one? Might it make the difference?

Version check

When you start POI Loader, single-click the icon in the upper left and choose "About POI Loader"

Current version is 2.5.2.0

Jeff

POI Loader Current Version

This is from the Garmin web site...

POI Loader for Windows, Ver. 2.5.3, as of Aug 22, 2008

Ok

Looks like mine is 2.4.2.0. Ok, I'll try it with the new one. Thanks, all!

Custom POI's work on my 750

I am new to the nüvi 750 (a little over a week) and I got POI's to work with mp3 voice alerts for Rest Areas, once I figured to pick one icon and one mp3 (from several listed with the CSV file) and rename them to match. I made a "Current POI" directory for one(s) that I actually use for POI Loader.

I haven't tried based on redlight or speed names yet, I just used Manual mode in POI loader to set a distance (I am trying 7500' for rest areas).

BTW there is a 4.2 software update to smooth out voice directions.

My other Garmin is a classic GPS 45 (downloaded manual is copyright 1994). No maps on that one unless you make your own track.
