Garmin Maps for the Mac are on the way...

Hi Fellow Mac users,

I've been told that Garmin will be releasing mapping software, that will be totally Mac compatible.

From Garmin's website:

Maps for Mac

We're pleased to announce that Garmin will be releasing some of our high volume mapping products in native Mac format, starting with City Navigator North America 2008 and City Navigator Europe 2008.

Bookmark this link and monitor it for developments concerning Garmin and the Mac OS.

At the Mac Expo, last week, the Garmin people were telling me that they would be releasing fully compatible mapping software, in either late March or early April. I would imagine it would cost the same as the current map software that runs on Windows, but we'll just have to wait and see...

Hi GC0110,

I only inquired about the Mac compatible automotive mapping software and also suggested they develop template type (fill-in-the-blank) software, to aid in creating .csv & .gpx POI files.

What did they say to that? (if anything!)

Hi Phil,

After I plead my case for making the .csv & .gpx creation process, more user friendly, by creating a fill-in-the-blank type software, they said...Very interesting and they would "look in to it".

.csv & .gpx POI files

As a "newbie" to the gps, what's the meaning/differences with .csv & .gpx POI files?

Thanks,

Ok anyone know what this means on that page...

"Note: You cannot use this product to update the maps on your preloaded Garmin device. To order updated map data for your preloaded Garmin device, visit the Map Updates page."

Ummm, is is possible to buy a Garmin withOUT maps preloaded onto it? I guess this can only be used on your completely empty Garmin, eh? neutral

Hi Guttermouth,

I'm just guessing that Mapsource for the Mac, is to be used "on your computer" and then whatever you create (points of interest, waypoints, etc.) can then be uploaded, to your GPS.
