Garmin POI's for Dunkin Donuts

Is there a Dunkin Donuts POI list formatted for Garmin.csv?

Dunkin's are my most important POI...

SIMark wrote:

Yes I did, that is the one that is missing a few local DD's in Staten Island. That's why I was hoping the author would have an "older" version.

Many, many Dunkin' locations went missing when the file name was changed from "Dunkin Donuts" to "DD". I have also wondered about a chance to go back to an older file. The current one is far less user-friendly, in addition to be less comprehensive.

LoL

I once got pulled over and had 2 box's of glazed in the back, the officer commented on them so I replied:
"I always buy 2 just in case I get pulled over."
Needless to say he didn't see the humor in it.

I have a old file that is not pretty and may be obsolete but it is from 2008 (lmk if you want it).

Thanks for responding and offering! I just tried using the built in POIs for DD this weekend in lower MI, and found it lacking.

My email addy is jimpmp2000@gmail.com if you're willing to send your file to me. Thanks again.

Dunkin Donuts File

The latest Dunkin Donuts file has been completed. I would like to request that all memmbers that inputed comments to this thread regarding changes to the old file, please look at this new revised file and see if I incorporated your inputs.

WILL DO

Starting a a long trip, will check various POIs including this one.

Thanks

Many thanks, Mahoney!

This is my most used POI file and when a previous version seemed lacking, I was very disappointed. I'm sure that won't be the case here, and I have full confidence that when I need that Dunkin' coffee fix, that your file will lead the way. Thanks!

You are most

welcome and I hope that the file can help your cravings for Dunkin' coffee.

Dunkin dounts poi for garmin

Can you please send me the poi for dunkin donuts I believe the format is (CSV) for the gamin units THANKS

Please just be careful

Just be aware that the TomTom Dunkin donuts file probably contains ringer locations, that are used to track the original authors file. Each and every location would have to be checked and rechecked for validity. If this has not been done, this file would be a copyright infringement.

Mahoney does an excellant job on this file. Besides, mahoneys file has 6973 locations and Poi66 has only 6931.

EDIT: When I went to Poi66.com it locked up my browser. Not sure why though.

Dunkin' Donuts

Sorry. I'm a newcomer and must have found an old file that had fewer than 100 DDs listed. I have now downloaded the one you referenced. Tnx.

Welcome to the site.

There is a Getting Started button in the upper right of this page right under POI Files. It is worthwhile visiting this page.

To make navigation easy, most browsers provide the following option. When you want to follow a link - but still keep your current page open - you can hold down the "Ctrl" key as you left-click on a link. That action will open a new "Tab" in your browser up on the "Tab" bar. When you then left-click on that new "Tab", you will follow the link - leaving the "Tab" you are now reading open and available to click on and return here.

So, using the "Getting Started" link, you might try the "Ctrl" - left-click sequence and then return here. You can return by either "X-ing" out of the "Getting Started" page (using the "X" on the "Tab" itself) or just left-clicking on the "Tab" for the page you are on right now.

Since you are new here, I encourage you to go through a couple of the Beginner Education FAQs.

The first link makes sure the settings on your computer are such that you can do more advanced POI loading.
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30393

The next link helps you make a backup of your GPS by attaching it to your computer. (NEVER do anything to your GPS until you have a backup)

DD POI and drive-thru

DMCNH wrote:

the site has a great Dunkin Donuts POI. I use it all the time. I was wondering if there was a way to differentiate DDs with drive-thrus. I have been watching my grandson lately and when driving, would like to find a drive-thru to get my coffee so I do not have to go through the hassle of taking him in and out of his car seat each time. Thanks.

Possible

This turns out to be very interesting.

The first thing I did was look at the corporate website
http://www.dunkindonuts.com/content/dunkindonuts/en/stores.h... to see what the options were. I found that I could put in my location and then filter by those having a Drive-Thru.

I concluded that it would be possible (although a lot of work because of the vast number of stores) to add comments that would give this information plus other info like whether the store was open 24 hours a day.

I then downloaded the .gpx file from http://www.poi-factory.com/node/17186 and looked at the file in EPE. I looked to see what stores were near me by doing a "find" on Chattanooga. Lo and behold, the file has no stores near me although there are really 3 within a 10 mile radius - 2 of which have drive-thrus.

The change history says the last update was in Sept. 2009 on the .gpx file but is up-to-date in the .csv file maintained by mahoney (so what would be news about that - he is a great maintainer).

A cursory look seems to show that the files have the same information.

Now my question is why they are not identical. Probably need to get Angela involved.

@bsp131, it would be very easy to create yourself a sub-set of the file and make it a TourGuide which would alert you whenever a DD with a drive-thru was close by.

thank you.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I will try to create a sub-set. I am not sure how to make it a Tour Guide but I will look it up.

TourGuide

bsp131 wrote:

All you need is the word TourGuide" in your poi name. You also need a wav file for this to work. You can have a bitmap also. All 3 files need to be the same name (except) for the extension. Note the spelling of TourGuide. Run poi loader in manual and set your distance.

I would ...

bsp131 wrote:

I would get my subset using Extra POI Editor to first arrange the file based on distance from my home (assuming you are not going to take the grandkid too far. Look up the closest DD to your house. Once having that location shown in EPE, click on Tools, then on Sort by Location (or do a "Ctrl-L" key combination). This will sort the file based on how close the locations are to your home.

Now save the file and open it in some editor like Notepad (I prefer Notepad++, but most editors will work).

You should see something like

<wpt lat="40.748076" lon="-73.684913">
<name>DD-New Hyde Park,NY</name>
<extensions>
<gpxx:WaypointExtension>
<gpxx:Address>
<gpxx:StreetAddress>1600 Hillside Ave, New Hyde Park,NY 11040 </gpxx:StreetAddress>
</gpxx:Address>
<gpxx:PhoneNumber>(516) 352-2600</gpxx:PhoneNumber>
</gpxx:WaypointExtension>
</extensions>
</wpt>

Scan down through the top ones until you get those "blocks" you would like to keep (like the one above - starts with wpt and ends with /wpt inside the less than and greater than symbols).

Delete those you don't want.

The last line of the file will now be
</gpx>

Save the file and add to the name the character string "TourGuide" (without the quotes, of course, but note the Capital T and the Capital G).

Open the file back up in EPE.

Do an Edit > Replace Field (or Ctrl-R key combination) to get a Replace Field dialog. Press the "arrow" next to the Field Name and select Proximity. In the New Field Value line, put in some distance - say, 2500, to get half a mile.

Finally, click Replace All, and EPE will put your value in every record in the file.

Save the file.

To the folder in which this file resides, add a .wav file whose name is exactly the same on the left side of the extension.

Run POI Loader in "Express" mode on your new "xxxxxxTourGuide" file and go try it out.

Dunkin Donuts

What, you mean the 7042 CSV Files I Downloaded for Dunkin Donuts, here on a POI is not Valid? The File was last Updated 4-9-2013. Is everyone talking about a different File or amj I in the Twilight Zone. I HAVE A CSV DUNKIN DONUTS FILE ON MY GARMIN nuvi 2555LMT that actually Alerts me when I get within 1/4 Mile. (I set it for that Distance) It even has a Sound File. What is people talking about when say there is no POI File?

Lewis Grizzard had a monologue on Sherman's march through Atlanta around I85 past Stone Mountain - the punch line is "It's a trick: There's two of them!"

when you go to http://www.poi-factory.com/node/9162 you will find links to a .csv file

Wait a minute... who am I here?

Myrtle Beach

Mahoney,
Here are a couple of corrections (just the location) in Myrtle Beach, SC.

DD/BR [drivethru-yes] [wifi-yes]-Murrells Inlet,SC
wpt lat="33.588226" lon="-79.027229"

DD/BR [drivethru-yes] [wifi-yes]-Surfside Beach,SC
wpt lat="33.639982" lon="-78.988272"

The Murrels Inlet one is probably off because it is in the town of Garden City. However, Garden City has no post office, so they use the Murrells Inlet zip code. When I view the marked location in MapSource, it was way off.

The One in Surfside kept sounding off when I drove by, but I couldn't see any DD building? When I looked in Google maps, the actual location is on a side road not directly on the highway.

BTW, thanks for keeping this file up to date. It is my favorite POI!

Addresses for the above

Thanks for the corrections. However, the file has 2 locations in Murrells Inlet,SC. I believe that the location that should be corrected is 2907 S Hwy 17, is that the one? Using google earth, the values that I get for that location are:
-79.012212w 33.585519n

Yup

Yup, that's the one, and those are the coordinates from google maps. The numbers I gave you should be exactly on the driveway where you pull in. (I took those right off my GPS!)

is it just me?

is it just me or does anyone else want a donut now?
Lmao!

Location at 2901 S Hwy 17,Murrells Inlet,SC.

I agree that the coordinates that I have in the file for both of these locations is presently incorrect and need to be corrected.
I will make the corrections for the location in Surfside Beach,SC, using your coordinates.

For the location at 2901 S Hwy 17,Murrells Inlet,SC, your coordinates show the location approx .86 miles west of the actual location, which is at the SE corner of US 17 and Atlantic Ave. I verified this with the locations shown on both the DD and BR website locators. Using google maps and google earth, they both show the location at that SE corner. The coordinates for this SE corner are:
-79.012212w 33.585519n

Let Me Double Check...

Did I post the wrong coordinates? This is what I see using GeePeeEx...

http://www.egfg.org/photos/albums/userpics/10002/DD2.jpg

P.S. I went back and checked the numbers from the first post and they were off. D'oh! That just goes to show you how easy it is to mess up an entry!

No problem,

as long as we get the correct coordinates for a location. We don't want the members to go to a wrong location when they need a DD fix.

Dunkin Donuts and Tim Hortons POI

My wife's 2014 Ford F-250 shows all Dunkin Donuts and Tim Hortons locations on her built in navigation system as we travel. Can that list/data base be imported in to our units? I NEED MY COFFEE BAD.
