I guess I needed that.

...it fails to clean up after itself and the update enabled the self updater task which checks for an update every morning at 2 AM. The update, not a biggie but about 128 MB, can be found at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\CoreService\Downloads\Application. I delete all but the last update.

To disable the self updater task, in Windows open the Task Scheduler and then click on Task Scheduler Library. Over at the top right you'll find a panel of scheduled tasks. If needed scroll down to "GarminUpdateTask" and right click on it. Select your desired action.

With GE updates occurring on intervals like 6 months I simply do not find a need for a daily check on a potential update. Log files are small. But they get written every time the check is made.
