GPS Software Update

why wouldn't you want to use webupdater...unless you are concerned the unit was registered to someone other than yourself? did you buy it cheap?

yes, you can go to garmin's website and dowload it from there.

Do you have the link? I can find the unit software for the Nuvi 350(e.g. 5.20), but not the GPS update (2.90 to 3.00).

A Search for '"GPS Chipset Type G" site:garmin.com' at google only returns the 2.90 firmware. You will need to use the Web Updater. Apparently Garmin wants everyone to use the Web Updater or they have not got around to posting the 3.00 firmware update link.

the webupdater worx fine

Hi everyone.
I just loaded the 2.40 update to my Garmin Nuvi760, My unit started loading the updates into my GPS and then rebooted like usual. But after the reboot, the 760 unit has now locked up. It only starts up into the "GARVIN" logo with the black background for about 5 seconds and then shuts down. Can not even get it to go past this point. If I hookup AC, unit just powers up with the "GARMIN" logo and black background and just stays on this window. Its like the processor or system is dead or frozen. If I connect it my PC, the 760 is not being seen by the POI Updater or Web Updater program.

Anyone have ideas or how to reboot the Nuvi 760 unit besides what the owners manual suggests? I have tried the owners manual way to reboot and it doesn't work.

Thanks for the info. I guess I can use the webupdater and then reinstall the old unit software. I was just hoping to avoid that step.

Call Garmin. I know they have a special package to attempt to repair a situation like yours. Worse case you may need to send it in for new one.

I just got a nuvi 350 for Christmas and was wondering why you don't want to upgrade the software?

I'm worried if I update mine it might mess something up. From the factory it has software version 4.80 and gps sw version 2.90.

Would it be better just to leave it alone and not update?

For the 350, in update 5.20 there is a problem that corrupts the Currency Calculator. Other than that I know of none.

Considering the myriad of improvements that are made over time, I think you're well advised to install every update as they are published.

If there is a glitch any of them, they will soon be remedied by another update.

When I wrote the original question, I was aware of a report that the currency converter was corrupted. Not knowing what else may be corrupted, I wanted to upgrade the GPS software without upgrading the unit software. With ver. 5.20 now getting no additional issues reported, I will now use the webupdater to get both upgrades since I really don't use the currnecy converter.

Garmin has a program you can download called Webupdater..it will connect to the Garmin Server and check to see if you are up to date..sometimes it will also Suggest a new Vehicle for your unit if it can use it...Great program

Has anybody noticed a difference with the GPS SW Version : 3.00 when updating from 2.90?

I just downloaded and installed the updates. Might take another drive tonight to see if I notice any difference.
