I bought a 2GB card for my Nuvi and am interested in using it to store pictures and waypoints. Do I have to create folders on the card then install or does the Nuvi take care of that for me? What do I do to manage the extra space?
Thanks in advance,
Paul
SD Card
With the SD card in your Nüvi, use POI Loader to install the waypoints and tell it to save to the SD card. POI Loader will create the necessary folders for the waypoints.

Thank you very much. I was beginning to worry that maybe the SD card was only for music and photos.
My greatest desire was to put my POI's out there.

Need some help. I loaded my
Need some help.
I loaded my POI files via POI Loader to my SD Card.
It created the file, but the Nuvi 660 would not recognize it.
I then loaded the same POI files via POI Loader to the Nuvi Drive, and the Nuvi recognized it fine.
Both locations reflected the same size file being stored after having completed the load.
Can anyone explain why the Nuvi might not be recognizing the POI files when loaded to the SD Drive??
I think I am 30 minutes
I think I am 30 minutes ahead of you on the learning curve. Try and place an MP3 or photo on the card and see if the Nuvi recognizes it.
If so, run POI loader twice. The first time, remove the pois on the nuvi, the second remove the pois on the card. Then, run the poi loader and specify the card. Turn the nuvi off, turn it back on. You should be asked if you want to move the data to the nuvi. Say no if you want to store externally. If you say yes, it will duplicate the info into the nuvi and you can remove and not use the card.
Good luck.
QUESTION FOR SOMEONE WHO IS 30 MIN AHEAD OF ME???????
What's the point of putting POIs in folders? I did so, but when I view on my Nuvi, they are all in one flat directory...

Putting POIs in folders ON YOUR COMPUTER (not on the nuvi) will allow you to have categories.
You can't have more than one level of subfolder. The files themselves will create the subcategory.
For example, it might look like this.
> My POI (Main folder)
>> IHOP (subfolder)
... IHOP.csv
... IHOP.bmp
>> National Parks (subfolder)
... National Parks.gpx
... National Monuments.gpx
... National Recreation areas.gpx
... National Parks.bmp
... National Monuments.bmp
etc.
In this example, IHOP and National Parks show up as categories and then under National Parks, the subcategories of National Parks, National Monuments, and National Recreation Areas show up.
Here are some screenshots of what it would look like.
This is a shot of the folder and files on my computer.

This is how the first level shows up on my Zumo.

When I select the National Parks category, this is what I get.

Then if I select National Monuments, I get this.

Thank you so much Motorcycle
Thank you so much Motorcycle Mama! I did have them in folders ( I thought ) and found this not to work, so I didn't pursue. After your kind demonstration ( with graphics too ) I decided to give it another try and what did I find... It worked!
Thanks for your kindness

MM, follow your advice
I followed your advice and re-organized my POI last night. It worked. Thanks.
Next, Garmin users talked about deleting useless languages from Garmin units to save memory for other useful things, e.g. POI.
I checked into the Garmin drive: F:/Garmin Nuvi/Voice/xxx.vpm Are these "vpm" files the different foreign language files? I'll never be a linguistics expert. Can I safely delete these "vpm" files? Thanks.
Windsang, I backed up all
Windsang, I backed up all the languages ( and everything else ) on the Nuvi and deleted the unused voice and help files in languages I will not use. I left all english and espanol files on the Nuvi... I am in Southern California and I enjoy hearing the street names pronounced in espanol...

Yeah, those are the voice files. We always recommend BACKING UP any files before deleting them. That way if something goes wrong, you can put them back.
