I think I'm alone here... (handheld gps)

I look about these forums and notice something blatantly obvious. Everyone is using a dashboard mounted GPSr. Is there anyone else using a handheld mapping GPS unit like me?

It would be really cool if there was a chart/graph/report which displayed the brand/models of GPS units owned/used. I supposed the information could be gleaned from the user profiles or a simple survey would suffice.

Just starting here at poi-factory, but I am using a 60csx. Haven't really played with my own poi's on it, mostly just use it for hiking, but was looking here for info on adding poi's to my recently ordered nuvi 750

I have the 76CX mapping GPS

...and use it quite a bit for kayaking and hiking. But I haven't had much use for POI files for it such as those created on this site. I just make my own for the travels I do on assorted trips.

I have an etrex legend...

... but haven't connected it to my PC even once.

Not much you can do with those. They are great for hiking though smile

At http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1162 'your old uncle Robin' made a suggestions "that each user include their GPS brand/type/model that they are using in their signature block." Many of us followed that suggestions and are including the GPS model in our signature block.

portable gps

I have a Mio 230 and that is small enough to be portable. I have taken it on walks and traced my route. My boss takes his Mio 220 kayaking to trace his travels. There are handheld GPS units out there but this site is for points of interest which would lean more to car travel.

Use mine in both worlds

I have a Garmin 370. I picked it specifically, because of its size (I can fit it in a coat or pants pocket) and its long battery life (I have verified ~6.5 hours of battery life when using the gps). I use it both in my car AND when walking around unfamilar cities. The pedestrian mode is good and even when walking, it tracks position accurately.

Have Both kinds

I have an Etrex legend Cx and I would never give it up. It complements my C330 in many ways, I love it for the portability, and the fact it also has the Long, and latitude. I have a bean bag mount for it and use it..sometimes with my 330. I like to have the Etrex zoomed out more for the Bigger picture..

Yep, me too.

I've used my 60CS for years for traffic navigation up until I got my 650 a few weeks ago. Routing instructions are all non-verbal, of course, but it worked very well. It wasn't until I joined POI-Factory that I even knew about custom POI's so I haven't a clue if they work on it.

Question for your boss

I've taken my Garmin 350 out on the water, but found it of limited usefulenss since it shows little detail of the shoreline. I believe Mio is TeleAtlas map based. Do the water areas on your Mio have a high enough level of detail to be useful?
