AT&T Tilt / HTC Kaiser

Has anyone gotten their hands on one yet? Any opinions? My contract is up in January and I want to upgrade from WM2003 and square screen smile

I got 2, one for me and one

I got 2, one for me and one for my wife. We have had them for about 3 weeks now and I am extremely pleased. The built in gps is extremely accurate and I can even get 4-5 satellites while i'm at my desk at work in a concrete and metal building. We have each loaded TomTom Navigator 6 with the US and Canada maps. I would highly recommend this device. If you got any specific questions about it, just ask me.

Does the phone come with sim locked or unlocked?

Jeff

Since It's an AT&T thing

I imagine it's like every other AT&T phone as far as locking the sim goes...

It depends. The old AT&T would lock every phone and Cingular it really depends. Sometimes they locked the hot item but most of the time they did not as I was once with them a few years back. Since SWB bought the AT&T and Cingular now uses the AT&T name, I am not sure the new policy. For sure iPhone was locked. smile

Locked down tight...

Absolutely locked...

If you looking for unlocked you can purchase the unbranded unlocked version directly from HTC who makes the device for AT&T and they rebrand it. The model is the TyTNII also code named Kaiser.

It is the same physical hardware as the Tilt with one exception being it has the added function of 3G data services video cam on front for televideo calls. I got mine here at MobilePlanet.com

http://www.mobileplanet.com/p.aspx?i=151727

The additional software will also vary slightly as you can see that AT&T adds their own apps on top of the Windows Mobile 6 base operating system (just like HTC adds their own apps)

There is an external GPS antenna option but I can't believe they sell any of those because TyTN II uses the new GPS chip that picks up indoors through most windows. I was at a hotel that used shiny metallic coating on its windows that effectively blocked the satellite reception but that was the exception.

It comes with one free map download with the TomTom software that is included on the device. I personally got CoPilot ver7 and Haros Ostia to run on mine in addition to the TomTom.

Unfortunately,

the unlocked HTC TyTn II does not seems works with AT&T 3G sim card and there is rumor that it block certain IMEI numbers. Without 3G, it is worthless for TyTnII and I have to look for unlock service to see if it works with Tilt or not...

Edit, actually it is a lot easier, according to xda, you can just call att to unlock the phone claiming you are taking an international trip to Europe and they will give you the unlock code, for CID then you need the hardSPL to whack it.
