I can't comment on Co-pilot

I can't comment on Co-pilot GPS specifically, But my father and uncle use to use a laptop (when they travel together) and they like the portable Tom tom much better.

TAKE A LOOK AT A LOWERANCE

Had a tom tom ,didn’t like it. Have a Magellan 700, 4 years now, it’s great. I needed service right after I got it, and that was also great. It’s now used as my backup. I did around 50,000 a year driving and couldn’t make it without a GPS.
My main GPS is a 2 year old iWAY 500 by Lowrance. They are famous for their fish finders. It’s a discontinued model so I don’t know about it’s replacement the iWAY 600.
But I’ll tell you what, the 500 has been great, great tech service, everything. If you want fantastic service out of a GPS,try AN EXTERNAL ANTENNA. They work great with the one built in, but they are fantastic with the external.

CoPilot

I have CoPilot and use is on my Toshiba TabletPC laptop when I travel long distances. Bottom line is that it works great but you have to have lots of room and space to put your laptop where you can see it and operate it without it sliding around.

I am waiting for version 11 to come out so that it will work better on my UltraMobile PC which is so much smaller formfactor than my laptop.

The best strengths are it has voice command built in for thinks like zoom in , out, etc. Since I have a Tablet and a UMPC I can use the touch screen for the interface instead of using the mouse pad.

The additional screen size makes for large maps areas being able to see what is nearby such as POI's. The maps have lots of detail and POI's.

However having a laptop in the car is kind of tough. Take a look at www.ProClipUSA.com
for mounting solutions.

For in town and short drives I never use the laptop but CoPilot for my Pocket PC Phone called the HTC TyTN II. With this mobile version it is fun and easy for my family to check out where Dad is when traveling because there is a website they can see where I am live because it feeds back the position coordinates to them via a website on a map.

I am wondering what problems you had with the Garmin you were trying to overcome...

Problem with Garmin

I think the problem is he is driving a Semi Tractor
Trailer. The Garmin as well as other GPS systems do
not allow for the space and size constraints that come with driving big trucks. There are many streets we cannot use, and their are other concerns such as low clearances, and getting turned around when missing a turn.

Can't understand why GPS manufactures do not see Truck Drivers as valuable customers as they do not attempt to accomodate their special needs.

Truck setting

Nuvi 350 has a "Truck" setting mode.

Don't know what size it references or what it does, tho.

Only used car and pedestrian mode so far.
