Is there a search feature when entering a street address?

Hi,

Would anyone know if there is a search feature on the Nuvi 350 when entering a street address?

Usually, when I type in a street name or city, the GPS would auto complete and display results similar to that spelling.

But yesterday, I was trying to meet a friend in Brooklyn (NYC). He told me to meet him at the intersection of 13th ave. and Bay Ridge Parkway.

Unfortunately, when he said Bay Ridge Parkway, I thought the spelling was: "Bayridge Parkway". When I entered "Bayridge Parkway" into the Nuvi, it would not display any results. My friend asked if I was spelling Bay Ridge correctly. Little did I know that it was two separate words.

I even tried entering the word: "bay" on the street name. But that didn't come up with any results. I was hoping that it would auto complete and give me a list of search results. But it didn't.

I'm thinking that this feature doesn't exist on the Nuvi 350. But if there is a way to search for a list of street names, I would appreciate it if someone could give me advice on this.

Thanks in advance!

Nuvi will auto find Bay Ridge Pky

I've done this before, and did a little test with your streets on my Nuvi 360 ...

- go to "Where to" and select "Intersections"
- enter State and City (Brooklyn auto-completes after the 'l')
- enter 13t (auto completes to select 13th Ave)
- enter 'Bay'
- tap 'Done'
- scroll down the list until you find "Bay Ridge"
- select this and you get 2 Bay Ridge options, select the Bay Ridge Pky

Viola!!

BTW ... the search will work the same no matter which street you enter first

Nuvi will autofind...

Grat answer. Thought the same thing when I read the original question.

(I'll live and learn!)

Search Feature

Also along the same lines, when you start looking for an add, it asks you for State first, then city, then House Number and street.
Sometimes the city may not be clear (small townships in Pittsburgh for example). If you enter the wrong township, it does not find the street, so I can start with PA, and Allison Park as the city, but the address is two blocks into the adjacent township and it does not find it. Any one figure out how to use STATE and then the street/number next?

Use 'Search All"

- "Where to"
- "Address"
- select State
- select "Search All" (instead of 'Spell City')

Your Nuvi will spit out a list of towns that have that address, scroll and select the proper town!

Not sure if this will work

Not sure if this will work or not, but since I'm also in Pittsburgh, the 'Allison Park' thing got my attention. What happens if you put in the greater metropolitan area? Like rather than dealing with Ross Twp, or Allison Park, why not just Pittsburgh?
Will that work?

On a similar not, I have a hard time finding route numbers. So, if I want the intersection of say 51 and West Liberty, do I want 51, route 51, or something else. Half the time it seems like the route numbers are changed to local names (i.e. 28 becomes Allegheny Expressway or something like that, and 51 changes depending on the town..)

Use "Search All"

I hadn't tried that before but that works great. Thanks. Seems like you change townships around here as often as you blink and I have had problems finding addresses before.

Did not get any results with this method.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I went home and tried the directions you wrote above.

- go to "Where to" and select "Intersections"
- enter State and City (Brooklyn auto-completes after the 'l')
- enter 13t (auto completes to select 13th Ave)
- enter 'Bay'
- tap 'Done'

This is where it differs from what you have. I see the following options:
- Bay (Ave, Pky, St)
- Bay 10th St
- Bay 11th St
......
......
...... and the list goes on.

I selected the first option: Bay (Ave, Pky, St)

It comes back with "No matches found". I believe I did try this while I was trying to look for the intersection. But it didn't give me any results. Actually...it still doesn't give me any results. =p
I'm not sure if it's because I have a Nuvi 350. But my maps is: "City Navigator North America NT 2008".

I'm curious to know if anyone else with a Nuvi 350 can try this and see if they get the same result as I do. Although I don't think the GPS model makes any difference, I'm obviously getting a different result than you are.

I'm crossing my fingers that my GPS isn't broken in some way. =)

This worked!!!

Thanks for the tip! This worked! I didn't know the address and I totally didn't look into this option. I just kept checking the intersections option.

But I'm curious as to why the directions that user "djs" posted above didn't work for me.

In any case, thanks for the great tip!

Your need to continue your scroll

Don't select Bay (Ave, Pky, St) ... continue down the list and select Bay Ridge (Ave, Pky, Pl)

Bay and Bay Ridge are two different roads, and Bay must not intersect 13th ... but Bay Ridge does!!

Got it! That works!

Argh! I can't believe I made the same mistake twice!! =p

I was expecting it to show the results immediately just like when you enter the information under the "Address" option.

Thanks again for your help!

Searching by state

instead of city for street addresses is one of Garmins best features. Around Asheville NC as I'm sure is the case with other areas many smaller towns have grown together. We were in Asheville looking at real estate and had street addresses but not town or zip code info. After inputing a few addresses for Asheville and coming up empty I started using the entire state feature and found almost all of them.
