Even thou you have the USB cable plugged in make sure that the USB drivers are installed. Everytime I plug the Usb cable in it automatically installs the drivers! I don,t know why it does it every time I plug the cable in, I would think that it should do it only once on the initial plug in!

c340 will not be a mass

c340 will not be a mass storage device so it will not show up. nuvi's, and other mass storage gps units will display as a drive on the computer.

installing the drivers is solely related to your computer.

Not only that

but since the C340 doesn't include an mp3 player, you can't replace sounds anyway.

I figured as long as I can

I figured as long as I can see the files I can replace them using the same naming convention

Humm, so I don't have access to the drive. I'm starting to regret not getting the c550

I would also like to change the direction icon...

Thanks for the replies

You can install sounds using the POI loader as part of the POI package (POI List, Pic, Sound). Also, if you wanted an MP3 player, why didn't you get an IPOD? I know it's a feature such as bluetooth but that's why garmin has so many different levels for different user class.

Really?

Over the in red light camera threads they were saying you can't add sounds unless it has an mp3 player. I figured they knew what they were talking about.

I don't want an mp3 player, that's why I bought a C340. smile

Yes, over here:
http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4360
"Your unit must support MP3 playback for this function to be available."

.

Yeah, unfortunately, if your unit doesn't have an MP3 player, you cannot current load custom sounds.

C3XX series cannot do a lot

C3XX series cannot do a lot of things. I know, I own one.

You can't load custom files from a SD card, no creative audio file mods, etc. It's still a great unit to get you around town (and who needs all those gimmicks anyway?)

Check out POI Loader from the Garmin site. after installing it, it will recognize your gps when you plug in, ask if you want to update, etc. Also, while on the Garmin site, make sure you're running the latest software in the gps. Apparently, that matters.

Not always lost... just wandering.

Updating the C340

I've had the C340 for about 18 months and done just about everything that there is to do with it.
1.) Change the splash screen with xImage
2.) Made and downloaded numerous custom POI files with Excel and POI Loader
3.) Updated the units software with WebUpdater
4.) Updated the maps to 2008 NT
5.) Put maps on the SD card
Etc.
all of these programs are on Garmin's C340 webpage at:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=010-00...
If you have other questions you can email in the contact page

Correction on my part. You are not able to upload the audio if you don't have mp3 functionality. Does that matter since the unit has an audio beep as part of the POI loader function? Either way, the c340 is a great unit that's designed to do what a gps system should be doing.
