Phone feedback

I've found that when I'm using my phone via Bluetooth through my Nuvi 360 that the person on the other end often gets such bad feedback that they can't continue the conversation.
Is this a common problem? Is there something that I can do to mitigate it?
Phone setting?
Is this the difference between a 'Handsfree' bluetooth profile and a 'Headset' profile? ... and does your phone let you choose?
AIUI, 'Handsfree' profile is the one it should use in this case -- ie when it hears sound from the mic, it shuts off the speaker (to stop the feedback) and vice-versa. With a 'headset' there is no need to do this, because the mic part can't hear the speaker part anyway (IYSWIM).

No, neither the phone, nor the nuvi give me a bluetooth option for "headset" or "handsfree," though each of those is a separate option in the phone, having to do with automatic answering unrelated to bluetooth.

Is it there as a more general option, elsewhere in the settings?
As in : "Accessory type" or something similar?
Presumably, if the Nüvi is to blame, you can hear the feedback yourself, from its speaker?

A different option?
Sadly, no. However, I was just out in the car with my Nuvi when my wife called. I answered with the GPS and my wife did not hear feedback, so I may not have been experiencing a systemic problem after all.

Bluetooth
On a Nuvi is only as good as the version of Bluetooth on your phone. I've noticed that Motorola phones seem to not perform as well as others. I have yet to try my new work phone with my 660...an LG-AX380, AKA 'Wave'. I should go for a drive...
edit to add: went for the drive. the LG-AX380 performs better sound-wise than a Motorola Razr-V3m. Also, the phone book of the LG did something I like when transfering to the 660: It tagged people's names with a "/M" to indicate a mobile phone, or "/W" for a work number, etc. That is nice.

Motorola problem?
Keith, I have a Razr-V3. Maybe that's the problem.
Thanks for the feedback (pun intended).

I use a Cingular 8525, it reports that my Garmin as a Hands Free with Serial Port. I initally used the FM radio speakers, my wife says she heard an echoo. I switched to the internal speaker which then sounded fine.

Handsfree mic
To add to the discussion: I have a nuv1 360, motorola 815 connected via bluetooth and use the headset for teh FM modulator. For some reason, everything works great UNTIL I try and talk and then nothing is heard by the other party. However, as soon as I remove teh FM/Headset plus, everythign works fine. Anyone know why or how to correct?
