Nuvi 660 locks up

I have a Nuvi 680 and the same thing has happened on several occasions it locks up and speed locks up and then you shut it down and start it back up and everything is fine till next time.........it is only about a month or so old......first one I had to return because it would no longer aquire a signal..............seems like alot of problems for a thousand dollar unit.............Dave

Is your firmware updated to the latest version?

I Had One Do The Same Thing and Garmin Said to send it back and i did when i got either the same one back or a different one same model though i havent had and problems and its been two years already it works just fine it is a nuvi370

You paid a grand for yours? Wow- mine was "only" $700, and I've seen it for much less since I bought mine.

I haven't had any issues with mine and I've travelled from PA to MD, NC, OH, AZ...I do constantly check for updates though.

Wow you only paid 700 bucks for a Nuvi 680? That is cheap........I got mine at Best Buy when they first came out in early March.........nobody else even had any so I had to pay the price to be the first one on the block with a 680..........Dave

I had this same problem. which was resolved by updating the firmware and freeing up memory by deleting unused content, such as foreign voices.

I upgraded to 4.0 and now the traffic information just is not there. The icon doesn't even appear.

What other content did you delete to clear up space? I think that I'll delete some of the foreign voices too, but what else can be deleted?

nuvi660 unit software ver 3.8 is the current release as of 8/22/07.

Remember, the icon won't appear immediately: you must connect to your receiver first.

Back up everything from your unit onto your computer as soon as possible and before deleting or tinkering with anything.

How often do you use the "Help" files?

love garmin. remember that despite problems here and there, the other gps companies have a million more problems. new technology is hard to grasp. check out palm treo's man. those things crap out on a regular basis. and the Iphones are pieces of junk right now compared to what they will be after a million updates

I sent a message to Garmin several days ago and have heard nothing! I wonder why the silence? They have always responded fairly quickly in the past.

I dropped the Nuvi 660 the other day and broke the screen. I have sent it to Garmin for repairs. Will be interesting to see if it resolved the lock-up problem.
