might be legit ...

This has come up a few times at the factory in the past, even got a notice myself a year or so ago. While you should never click a link in an email this may be legit. Always go directly to a web site not thru an email link.

Garmin account

soberbyker
If I ever had a Garmin account, that would definitely be many, many years ago way back when I bought my 1st Garmin around 2001 or so. A Nuvi? 350. Next came a Nuvi 855 and back then if I recall you needed to contact Garmin to register the unit. Also a long time ago I actually purchased a CD with a new map on it, this was before every Garmin came with Lifetime maps.

Why should I care

I created a Garmin account many, many years ago. That was when I bought my first Garmin, a StreetPilot 310. Since that time I don’t recollect having any contact with Garmin other than downloading GE. So really, I don’t see an advantage to having a Garmin account.

Melaqueman, Sorry I was trying to help, I was not aware of whether or not you had an account with Garmin. I do and received the same notice a year or two ago. I went to the Garmin site in my normal way, not thru an email link, and checked all my info and whatnot. Plus it does say on their website they may send the kind of letter you received.

I have 6 Garmin units that I still keep up to date and a few I don't. The advantage for me to have an account is to get updates on new products, or maybe even a recall notice for a defective unit. I have had to return a Garmin unit that had developed a problem to exchange for a refurbished one and an account was required for that service.

Bottom line, regardless of anyone having a Garmin account or not the email could be legit was all I was saying, just don't click a link in an email, and since you probably did have an account, albeit many years ago, that could be the reason for a legit letter from Garmin.

Known issue going back to 2021 there have been several prior discussions about getting the email(s).
From last month: Cancellation Of (Garmin) Account
From 2021: Action Required: Your (GARMIN) Account Will Be Deleted In 60 Days

Do not click on any link in the email. Instead open a browser window and access Garmin.com and log into your account that way. One can check their account section on Garmin.com to see what email communications one has received from Garmin.
