I think map updates are only needed twice a year at most. I update mine once or twice a year. If I need something more current, I'll use the computer in my phone.
I hope we are getting new maps before mid-June. New roads are in, and I have several major road trips planned for this summer. Always good to have the newest updates with new roads.
Last 2 maps dropped while we were out of town.
Based upon that luck…….. I’m afraid to set a vacation date, as that surely will be when maps are released!

I do update as soon as I know there is one available. I was also a very long time user of Gpspassion that posted updates immediately in addition to here before it was gone.
I don't have the built in navigation and do use AA for longer trips that does seem quite accurate. Being on the large screen is a plus and in my vehicle I can still listen to the radio etc it does not have to be through AA.
Google maps is surprisingly accurate on radar warnings on the major highways they must get a good number of people reporting.
But I still like using the Garmin for shorter trips and for everyday use. Keeps my phone from using the battery, charging more often, getting quite warm. I generally keep my phones so less stress is better. And I really like the upcoming road name feature.
I am now using the DS65 and the large screen (over my 3590) really makes a huge difference. I do have the phone set to automatically connect through the app just for information/weather etc not for calls. (Still goes to infotainment system for calls) this puts no real stress or even much more battery use on the phone.
I think the length of time from new data until maps are pushed out are one of the biggest shortcomings of Garmin automobile navigators right now. Google Maps are the "go to" for many people. Garmin already has Bluetooth in many new devices for traffic. Expand that with the ability to update maps more frequently and maybe it would generate a few more sales.
Although I never had the Garmin Nuvi 1690/1695 devices, I always thought they were a great idea. The data can come from Bluetooth. They don't need a separate cellular SIM card inside.
I suppose the cost of the NüLink! Services exceeded the value they received in profits, but I still wish it would be resurrected.
Road Construction Projects make Garmin maps out of date.
I live in nyc and road construction projects are constantly changing roads from two way streets to one way streets, or one way streets to two way streets or even closing streets completely. Yesterday I went to the dentist and I drove down a major two way street. My Garmin kept telling me I was driving the wrong way. There was no way to get rid of the warning other than having the unit keep recalculating the route. Eventually I reached my next turn, and was able to turn off the street.
Also nyc keeps renaming streets because many street names are racist.
The next Garmin update will probably be around Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Nah, this is just folks a-wishing and a-hoping and passing time waiting for something to happen. No real info here....Let's just call this the Chit-Chat Map Update Thread.

I’m home from vacation! Have no need for map update!
Though it would be nice if you’d remove routing through the local cow pasture!! It is paved Maybe 5’ off US 276, then degrades first to gravel then a cow pasture! And access from pasture is first prevented by a wooden fence post: cattle corral! (Whose access to local road is blocked by a gate on other side of corral! -- TWO separate blockages! )
Catamount Drive is the offending cow path Masquerading as a Paved Road!
And Yes! I have gravel roads disabled!
