I can't help but imagine

I can't help but imagine some idiot trying to play tetris on the GPS unit in traffic, causing an accident, and causing Mommy Government to make some anti gps law a la the recent cell phone restrictions.

Still looks cool though smile

Bad Idea

I have a 760, and it is disapointing I can not download games on it. It's not a big deal, but just like picture viewer, blue tooth, TTS, just a neat new feature, why not.

The garmin is small enough to take with you at boring functions, and why not have some games lol.

Doesn't bother me that I can't put games on my NUVI 250w

I don't care. It would just eat up may battery anyway. In addition, if I have some downtime in my car, I would much rather look at maps, not play games.

Now hold on just a second, I agree if you want to play games get a portable like a gameboy or whatever. But when I have down time in my car the very last thing I want to look at is a map... I prefer to listen to the radio and relax. and get ready for the next leg of the drive.

but yea, if you have a gps why look at maps.

no games, so ill just have to load nudie pics in my pic viewer for the down time

Wouldn't be a surprise

I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of mandatory "safe mode" law passed--which would be a shame because I'm very guilty of POI searching on the move.

I guess my Nuvi 660 doesn't

I guess my Nuvi 660 doesn't support games. Oh well. Gotta stick with my treo then.

Why would you want games on your GPSr

For the life of me I am trying to understand why you would want games on your GPSr? To each there own I suppose.

people get so offended at the mention of games, im not crying without them, but it wouold be cool if they had it, why not, the screen is bigger than my cell phone for games. It don't hurt, theyll still make cheaper models for the rest of you.

Games for Nuvi 200W

I am surprised by some comments here. Who would suggest someone would be playing while driving? This is suicidal and would endanger others too...

However, I would like to have a couple of games for my Nuvi 200W. I have a lot of idle time in Airports around the world, waiting for pick up in hotel lobbies etc. and my Nuvi has a bigger screen than my iPod so it would be nice to have a couple of games (i.e. tetris, jaw breaker etc.)

I still use my "prehistoric" Medion Aldi gps because of the games...

Great idea...now how about video?

Games are a great idea, so why not add video capabilities...

I would use my nuvi 760 as my Mp3/Mp4/AVI player and I'd take it everywhere...just like my current Mp3 player. One less device to deal with.

If someone is dumb enough to mess around with games or even watch a movie while driving, that's their decision, and they will have to face the consequences. I rarely drive long distances alone, so having something that my wife can play with in between the long legs of the trip would be great.

You assumed like I, that it would play recorded videos, but it certainly doesn't read that way -- just live TV.

GPS receiver OFF

galaxtel wrote:

I'd be all for it, if the games worked only when the GPS receiver is turned off, to discourage the few stupid people out there, who might even be more stupid than I am, from playing while driving. I guess one could play and drive with the receiver off, anyhow, but then the GSP is not functioning as a GPS anymore, but as a gaming device.

So....what about all those people with in-dash GPS/DVD players, or all the people with the motorized screens in their aftermarket receivers? I know a guy at work who has an aftermarket receiver, which has a fairly large LCD screen that ejects from the receiver, and flips up. A few seconds later, he had a movie playing as we were driving to get some food. People have had the ability to be distracted and kill you on the road for several years now...it's like saying alcohol causes drunk driving, guns cause crime, or matches cause arson. It's the *people* not the technology.

The GPS unit is lacking in features that people have had for several years now. I'm all for technology that reduces the number of devices I have. I can't wait for the day my cell phone can take better pictures than my point-n-shoot camera...and if my GPS unit could replace my MP3/Mp4 player, then bring it on! The 760 has a much bigger screen than my current Mp3/Mp4 player, so watching movies on it would be much easier on the eyes. If my nuvi had some more features, I wouldn't just use it in the car...I'd take it with me and use it at work, at the gym, and everywhere in between. grin

If people wanted to there has been gameboys for 25 years, hand held games, people have playstations etc. just because it has games in it who says you have to play them while driving, thats like saying i phones shouldnt have music or video cuz who will do that while their on the phone, its called multifuntional. shesh.

If you dont like it dont buy it, otherwise please keep your coments to yourself.

I would guess you most likly drink and drive and talk on your cell phone to. There was a school bus here that slamed into a parked gravel truck while she was talking on her cell phone. One little girl killed and the rest went to the hospital. I know it's not the phone or the game the kills. it's not watching what your doing while driving that does. And as far as keeping my my coments to yourself. I have as much right to say what I feel as you do.So If you don't like them, then please don't read em.

Games on a GPS? Who ever heard of such a thing?

I have an Ique3600 on it are about 25 games. I bought the Ique3600 about 5 years ago.

On it I also had Documents, excel spreadsheets, Mp3 music, jpeg pictures and my Sparky animations along with many othe programs.

A lot of these games I downloaded from Palm Software. But the unit was sold by Garmin with games already loaded on it.

One thing is for sure, I didn't play solitaire while driving or any other game. But I did play the games while using my Ique to track my Amtrak trips. It was real handy to have for the MULTITASKING it was able to do. I could switch between the map and game with a single push of a button.

Games are a nice feature to have. They can be useful while waiting at the airport, train station or just waiting in the car for the wife to finish shopping.

I now have to travel with both GPSs on my Amtrak trips one to track with and one to play games with.

very well done, honest, to the point, without offending anyone lol, all though some old crows you never know

I checked it out

I briefly checked out games for my 760 but I soon saw that it wasn't on the list of supported units. Ah, well. I would have looked at them but most likely deleted them after that. The type of games typically found on devices such as this - phones for instance - really don't hold my interest.

No Big Deal

Having the ability to play games is no difference from having MP3 player or picture viewer on the GPS. I often use my unit to listen to books while waiting at the airports and I would most likely play some games on it too to pass time if that feature is available.

Games

Why put games on there? Why not.

Would I buy one device over another because it had games on it and the other didn't? Absolutely not.

Would I pay additional for games for my GPS if it could play them? Never. But if they were there and I had nothing else to do I MIGHT play them.

Playing while driving, or others playing while driving?? 'Comon... I'm more concerned about the person who "only had two beers..." and thinks they aren't impaired in any way.

I can hear it now, "...but I only had two games of solitaire open..."

Games

I seriously doubt someone is going to play a game while driving. I think it's one of those "extras" that can be useful when you are on a plane trip, or sitting in a parked car while waiting for someone etc...The less stuff you need to carry with you the better. (remember each device requires additional batteries or chargers to carry with you).

games do not belong on a gps

games do not belong on a gps want to play solatare get a deck of cards, and i been playing games while driving before gps and even cell phones, i play solatre on my dashboard with the friction mount, never got into an accident in 67 years, in my model T

Do you know of many cell phones with a 4.3" screen? The iPhone has a pretty big screen...but that's Apple garabage. Do you know of many Mp3/Mp4 players with a similar sized screen? There are a few, but they are massive and expensive. GPS units have large screens that making viewing the on screen content easy on the eyes. Playing a game or watching video on a tiny cell phone screen is a pain.

If the nuvi 700 and 800 series had games and video capabilities...with a crafty marketing technique, they could take over the mobile entertainment industry. They already have a SD slot...and if a control pad could be attached to the docking port, it would be on par with the Nintendo DS.

Hmm...Garmin should do a jv with Microsoft to get massive deployment of a mobile version of the Xbox360. Microsoft has yet to have a mobile gaming platform...so this could be their chance. grin

It's interesting to red some of the old threads. In the last 5 years we all found new gadgets, new time wasters. So what new things have we found.
