DS 66 76 86 bc30

Has anyone had success connecting a ds66, ds76, or ds86 with a bc30 backup cam? Garmin documentation and tech support say the two are compatible but I've had no luck. It appears during setup that the DriveSmart only wants to connect with the bc40. Garmin support was no help.

It is unusual tha Garmin didn't help. I would try again.

Just in case you don't have the Users Manual for the BC 30, it is available on the Garmin web site. It has a section on pairing the BC 30 with the GPS.

The BC 40 connected without any issues.

Good Luck

Cable needed?

From a Garmin website I see a comment about needing a Mini USB to USB cable. Not owning any of these models, not sure why.

“dezl LGV700, Garmin DriveAssist 51, Garmin DriveLuxe 51, Garmin DriveSmart 51, Garmin DriveSmart 55, Garmin DriveSmart 61, Garmin DriveSmart 65, Garmin DriveSmart 65 with Amazon Alexa, Garmin DriveSmart 66, Garmin DriveSmart 71, Garmin DriveSmart 76, Garmin DriveSmart 86

The following cameras can be used with the above models:

Note: A BC 30 and BC 40 can be paired with the device at the same time

The Garmin DriveSmart 66/76/86 require the Mini USB to USB-C Adapter (purchased separately).”

Cable Needed?

The reason for the adapter cable is because the bc30 power cable must be used and it has a mini usb connector and the DS 66 uses a usb c connection for power. But the adapter cable did me no good. Thank you.

I don’t understand all I

I don’t understand all I know about this, but maybe what I have learned may help.

It seems that all USB C connections are not equal. It seems that some are only capable of providing power only in one direction.

It seems that other USB C connections can supply both power and data in both directions.

It seems that there must be data transmitted in both directions for the BC 30 to work with x6 series Garmin GPS units.

My 86 would not transmit the GPS audio with any USB C cables I own – except the one that came with the DS 86.

I don’t know how to tell if a USB C cable or adapter can transmit data, but I suspect you could find out from the cable supplier.

But, even if you can find a USB C adapter that will work, you won’t be able to connect the GPS audio to your auto stereo AUX connection. That connection is possible because of the special construction of the X6 12-volt adapter.

I hope this helps.

Solved

I was using what I thought was a high quality mini USB to USB c adapter when I was unable to connect. After getting an official Garmin adapter the connection works perfectly. Thanks to everyone's help, especially those who highlighted the differences between adapters.
