Ch-ch-changes?

Anybody notice good changes?

Yep!

New roads in the neighborhood, new exit/entrance ramps on the interstate, updated speed limits on the interstate, etc. A big improvement over the last two or three updates.

Thanks alanb

Will download when I have a chance.
The 2020.20 was screaming at me by voice as well as a huge red frame on screen yesterday that I was going the wrong way in a one way street.
NO such thing has always been two way and will be so in my lifetime.

Having said that, is there a way to eliminate this"warning" similar to how speedlimits can be changed?

Maybe 2020.30 will fix that?

I get the same thing when I pull in to an Autozone/Arbys strip driveway. Tells me I am going the wrong way on a one way street. There are no cross-streets nearby. If I drive around the the back of the Autozone it stops. Been that way for at least the last 3 updates.

AAA estimates that there are over 4 million miles of paved roads in America. I do not think Garmin should be blamed for potential errors.
First and foremost, drivers need to pay attention to what they are doing.

I woule be tempted to agree with you EXCEPT I have reported the changes to HERE at least 3 updates ago and still no correction.

This has nothing to do with "drivers need to pay attention to what they are doing".

Both KenSny and myself are doing everything correct!!!
It's the bloody Garmin that's wrong. In my case I've been using the same stretch of road sine 2004 and this had NEVER happened with any previous to 2020.20 updates.
So I hope the 2020.30 will have corrected this, it's bloody annoying!!!!!

used my cards

Both Garmin 3597 units in my family have had SD memory cards installed from the beginning a couple of years or so ago. Never until this update have I gotten any indication that the map update used them. This time both units got a message from Garmin Express something like "detected an SD card is installed, will use it for the map update".

I don't know whether something happening on my units caused them to run out of room, or this update was bigger, or a change in Garmin Express meant the add-on card would be used even though there was enough room available without it.

As I said in an earlier post (on page 1 of this thread), the same happened to me with my two 3597's. It is the first time the SD card has been used in either device although they have always had SD cards installed. I think the maps and related files have finally grown to the size where they no longer fit in internal memory. Checking the files after the 2020.30 map update, it appears the only thing Garmin Express put on the SD card is the JCV file. Everything else ended up in internal storage.

It varies a lot based on device model. On old devices that don't have a lot of feature files (like junction view, speech recognition, etc.) it can be less that 4 GB. On full featured newer models, it can be over 7 GB.

Finally saw something new with this update, a spot on I-676 now goes into 'tunnel mode'. That's two spots in the Philadelphia area that do it now.

Uunfortunately, you have two of few models that don't offer an automatic switch to SD cards for map updates. In Garmin's defense, your two devices are 9-10 years old and the nuvi 8x5 series had several differences from other Garmin series both before and after being introduced.

Have you looked into the map clone technique FAQ here to obtain full maps on SD cards? It may be worth a try.

My Zumo's ran out of room years ago, I can only download a very small portion to the main unit. What I do is that and also choose download to computer, then download the entire mapset to the card via mapsource (or something similar) and once finished in the settings uncheck the portion that was downloaded to the unit, so in effect I am running the entire map from the card.

Why post things like "no problem"

Why do people add such comments?

"Downloading as I type."

"Got it this morning. Took less time than it estimated.

"Got it this morning. Took less time than it estimated."

"Updating now..."

"I don't know whether I'm more excited about the 2020.30 map update or rearranging my sock drawer..."

No problems...

I think such a comment could encourage a few to update that otherwise might wait until they are 2 or 3 versions behind out of fear that the update might break their unit.

I would have also felt this way perhaps 5 years ago but these days GE seems to handle the task quite reliably.

Why so quick? lol. I’ll update my 2495 and 55 when I get home. The 1390T, I’ll hold off for now and wait for the full size JCV to be posted first.

Can an old JVC be used with an update? Maybe it isn't "up to date" but it would be better than the current small one, wouldn't it???

Each

Each map update comes with it's own JVC file so an old one can't be used with a newer map update.
