gstart

I have an icon that shows up on the bottom of my computer screen that is called gstart. Think it showed up when I got POI Loader. It says it detects when a Garmin USB is connected to my computer and is to prompt me for what I want to do with it. Every time it says there is no gps connected.

Does this program work for anybody else?

Plug your Garmin gps into

Plug your Garmin gps into the usb port and it should start up gstart and find your gps. One thing I find on my laptop for some odd reason I have to use the same usb port as when I installed the software.

Same problem

I experience the same problem with gStart. However, both webupdater and poiloader recognize the GPS. I haven't tried using the same USB port, actually I don't know which one it was. However, it doesn't seem to be a problem as the programs that matter do recognize the GPS

I don't have problems with

I don't have problems with webupdater or poiloader either. I am using Windows 2000 professional on an old laptop pc. I do use the same usb port each time.

On my system, gstart is just another little icon on the bottom of the screen. I'm not really sure when it installed itself.

gStart

I have the same problem, Itried all the USB ports on my computer and none work. I know the GPS unit is connected because I hear the ding dong when it connects. I would think this would be a much easier process. Any other suggestions before I change computers?

Same problem

I have the same problem. The gStart doesn't recognize the device, but POILoader and WebUpdater work just fine

gStart

Here is a trick I use when an application like webupdater or another usb device is not recognized. Go into your device manager - you will usually see that the device is connected that is why you hear the beep but windows does not recognize it - delete the unknown device then rescan or reboot. Should only have to do this once.

gstart is useless and

gstart is useless and irritating to me. I can invoke poiloader on my own; will delete gstart this weekend.

gstart

I also removed gstart. As an IT professional, I tend to only run processes that are necessary in order to maintain a high level of performance on my system. With that said, some may find gstart useful, if they connect their gps on a regular basis. So, it's worth it if you want to pay the cost of some lost system performance for the convenience.

gstart

What was gstart designed to do anyway. I disabled it since it never connected/recognized my nuvi...

G-start can be a unnecessary

G-start can be a unnecessary bother just sitting in the lower tool bar using resources. I right clicked on mine and deleted it altogether.
Web updater starts without it.
