The 2019.30 map update will probably be available in MapUpdater within a few days if history is any indicator.

So I tried giving Garmin Express a shot since Garmin mapupdater still is only showing 2019.20 and I cant get it to work, my dl speed just keeps falling then it will stall and just sits there, nothing wrong with my ISP everything else works fine just GE stalls out.

Any ideas?

Another addition

A street in my neighborhood that connects two other streets, is included in this update. This street is only about one year old, so it seems that either the city or county is reporting this to Here and they are getting it in the mapset fairly quickly. Another street that is only three months old was not included. We will see if it is included on the next update.

Are you on Win10? Is your device a mtp one? Win10 seems to have issues like this occasionally and the solution is to switch your device to mass storage mode.

Garmin Express does not work with some older devices. And it doesn't work on old OS's like Windows XP.

Frustrated

So far I'm unable to update my 350, GMU is telling me I cant update because there's no previously installed maps, what? there is too 2018!!!, Then...GE will start then my DL speed starts dropping to nothing then it stalls and errors out.

what's going here I've never had a issue!

Map update on 350

It is possible to update a nuvi 3x0 with a combination of Garmin Express and MapInstall. The first step is to use Garmin Express to update the map to "computer and device". Remove the SD card, plug 350 in and select the Express option to update to computer and device. Select the largest region that will fit into internal storage.

When that is complete, put a freshly formatted SD card in your 350 and run MapInstall. Select the remaining regions and install to SD card.

This method keeps each map file less than 2 GB, and still allows installation of the full NA map.

But alan I've never had a issue before the whole map obviously wont fit so I select the region(lower 49 states NE) I want and DL and install using GMU no problem but this one I cant with either installer!

GE will not finish DLing, it slows then stalls

free space issue?

It may be problem with free space on device that is recognized by GMU. I have this problem with updating my 770. Try to remove manually map file from Nuvi and then try to install new map.

Just in case if update will not proceed as planned, you may copy map from device to computer. But be warned, that copying 3GB or so will take quite some time.

Thanks

Will pull it down and update now.

And now a confession. I moved from AZ to WI about a month ago. Thank goodness for the GPS as it helped in the 1600+ mile drive but even more so, I'd be totally lost in Madison without it. Between all the one-way streets and being about 46 years since I last lived here, I don't know how I'd have survived without it. Now the Oops confession...in testing my backup 3597 with the new map today, I drove to get a haircut. Getting back in the car after the clipping, I told "Karen" I wanted to Go Home. The ETA seemed odd but I started following the route home. When I saw it not take an expected exit, I realized that it was taking me back to Arizona! redface

I did the same thing in Phoenix last year. I knew how to get back to our Apartment from friends but set GPS to Home and couldn't figure out where the thing wanted to go until I finally realized the problem. Senior moment.

It sounds like you're dying to update your Garmin device, but if you'll just be patient chances are very good that Garmin will have this 2019.30 map update on MapUpdater in the next few days. Garmin has not failed to provide a map update on MapUpdater to my knowledge.

The update went without a hitch ~ 35 min. It wanted to do a software update first that required shutting off my Garmin.. done automatically as part of the update... but "I" had to push the power button to turn it back on.

I can see nothing new in the Edmonton AB area.. and it still misses many "Streets ahead" in that top section of the screen. It skips over 2 ~ 3 major streets and will list a street several kilometers ahead. No new school zones.. which is a mixed blessing now that I have seen how they work. Garmin started with a few several updates ago..Not a feature worth having

Maybe in 17 weeks when the next update comes out something new will be added.. not likely.. but, ever the optimist.

Noticed the same thing, no Streets Ahead for me either. Ones that shows up are main streets like Gateway Blvd and 91st. Changes for Canada are So slooooooow. Be careful driving on the south side. I noticed 7 new camera locations that are not on the speed/redlight POI. Brand new style of cameras that I have not seen before. Not sure what these actually do. These I added to the file with the help of Google Earth.

Thanks, it's now not a matter of wanting to get it updated it's a matter of neither installer is working, MU for some reason is saying I cannot DL the current maps because there are no unlocked maps installed! when there surly is I have always updated it there is 2018 on it now.

but I'll wait see what happens I have no choice anyway.

I'm guessing MapUpdater is giving you erroneous (faulty) information because the program is just not currently operational. I think when Garmin makes the MapUpdater program operational it will not only provide accurate information to users but can also be used to download the latest map.

MapUpdater.

It is good news to hear from Koot that Garmin will enable Map Upudater for the 2019.30 map update. I was afraid that they may have abandoned it for good. I wonder why they wait to make the update available on MapUpdater? I can't think there are enough folks still using the old updater program to make any significant difference on server load.

Oh well ... only Garmin knows why they do what they do.

In Ohio, they have started using traffic light sensors. They detect movement upon approaching a traffic light. These things are usually white in color and are about 20-24 square. There are normally four to the intersection. Just guessing here, but this is a possibility. They’ve been using them down here for the last year or so.

they catch red light runners. The more ways they can find to catch them the better. I've actually seen drivers who hammer the accelerator coming up to a yellow light. Which tells me they see the light but don't give a damn.

Definitely speed/redlight cameras of some sort here in Edmonton. It's a cash cow for the city. But this style of camera's are new and it's the 1st time I have seen them. Hammering on the accelerator in Edmonton gets you a speeding ticket on a yellow or both on a red light.

Back to the update, easiest update on my 1390T yet with large JCV file being posted right away.

There is one area I'm looking forward to checking out, because in the past it always tries to send me way off track. Every time there's a map update I keep hoping they'll fix it, but they haven't. Don't get me wrong, I respond similarly in other scenarios...one time someone stopped by at work and said BMW was giving loaner cars indefinitely due to a Takata recall, and nothing clicked. Then I saw the same on a forum, so I called the dealer and they said yes. Now I hurried to get it arranged and had a free loaner for over 4 mos. lol

You would think they don't have anything at all more important in their life to do.

I suspect it has become a game of sorts with most of them to update their Garmin device(s) just as soon as a new map update becomes available. I doubt one person in fifty find anything different on a new map in comparison to their previous map.

It's funny and entertaining to see how hysterical they get over something that rarely offers any changes.

Wifi slowness during Garmin map updating

I would imagine wifi would be considerably slower than a cabled connection via a computer. Wifi's only virtue is for those without desktops or laptops to update with.

I sure as heck would turn off wifi in between updates (assuming that's possible) and relying upon Poi Factory to let you know when one's available.

Wifi updates are kind of pointless on a GPS with a 1hr battery life. You have to plug it in anyways so why not just update via USB where it's faster. Garmin's answer to releasing a new model for me 2017, add wifi to last years model.

Excellent

Just in time for Thanksgiving travel. No problems updating over the weekend.
