i am not sure if sox app, is needed on a mac. if needed, i am not sure i am installing it right. i have tried ver. 14.4.0 14.4.2 and 14.2.0. they are not zipped, just copy and paste. to locate poi loader app. i used finder-application- garmin poi loader app-right click-show package contents-macos-poi loader is in that directory. when i copy sox to that directory, it is a sub-directory with 12 files in it. one of those files is sox. moved from sub-directory to macos directory. to no avail. all help will be appreciated.
sox.exe
The proper Sox exe is 14.0.1. You can find it here. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .The mac users have reported that sox.exe is not required. You do need a wave file for the sound file. That is covered in the link above.

Thanks Charles, 14.0.1 did
Thanks Charles, 14.0.1 did not work. I am testing the .wav file in simulator mode. Could that be the problem?
Mac and wav
Mac computers can't use sox.exe (it is a Windows executable and not compatible with Mac OS) and you shouldn't need it for a Mac. So however you installed SOX on your Mac, get rid of it.
Are you using a .WAV file from POI Factory? If not, there may be something wrong with the .WAV file, so test with a .WAV file known to work with POI Loader. Also check your file naming very carefully. You should be able to test alerts in simulator mode.

Filename extensions
...check your file naming very carefully...
Double filename extensions are a possibility. Set the Mac to "view filename extensions" so this can be avoided. Where that setting is I have no idea. I am a PC person.

Thanks alan. sox.exe is
Thanks alan. sox.exe is gone!!. there are no sox file loaded with poi loader now. The .wav file I have been using is from poi sounds "rest area 2 alert sound" it is a .wav pcm s16 le (araw) stereo 44100hz 16 bits. I read somewhere this file should be mono not stereo. I tried it both ways and neither worked. This gps is new to me, but at some point I think I got a sound (bong) when I got a alert at the top of screen. Now, I do not get a bong or any sound with the alert. The setting is for one sound. It is not in off mode.
Thanks dobs The setting is
Thanks dobs The setting is in folder preferences. Show all file name extensions is on. Names are checked and double checked. All three are same except for extensions, .bmp .csv & .wav
