How Many Of My Fellow POI Factory Members Still Download POIs?

As posted above, I am just wondering how many of my fellow POI members do still download POIs? I haven't for a long time. Between what is already pre-loaded on the device and the ability to use the Garmin Smartphone application and send it to my Garmin Nuvi 3597, I don't really seem to have much need for it.

Anyway, for my members that do still download POIs, what POIs do you find to be the most helpful? I used to download things like amateur radio repeaters and broadcast stations, but I haven't used those lately either.

I do, but not as often as I

I do, but not as often as I used to. When NJ had RLC's I was on top of that because I'd travel to NJ fairly often at the time. Now if I see an update to something I already have is pretty much it. That said, I do visit daily to see what's going on with fellow POI members.

For those who update

I expect everyone knows this, but in case there are a few who don't, here's a tip.

When you have downloaded and use several POI files from the POI Factory, the easiest way to stay current with the least amount of effort is to click "My Favorite Files":

http://www.poi-factory.com/poifile/myfavorites

When there, you will see which, if any, of your files have been updated. Then you can choose to update only the POI file(s) that have been updated.

I do exactly as CraigW does

I do every week

Rarely. Even the one I keep

Rarely.

Even the one I keep up hasn't had a change in years as they neither expanded or closed locals.

Before a Trip

I update my favorite files, the redlight, and speed camera files before a trip. I don't used the GPS for daily drives.

I download

I download pois every week

weekly

weekly for redlight and speed cameras and our local municipalities are constantly adding more and more of both in their quest to rake in more and more dollars. Rest stops and restaurant poi's if I have a longer trip planned.

Download

Judging from the download counter, the files I maintain are still being used.

I do....

I download POI's at least monthly.

I download the pois o need and keep redownloading those as those get updated. I use my Garmin as backup and it's very useful.

Yes

I've been doing it for years

Yep...

We take cross country camping trips each year. One year we went from Northern California up to Fairbanks, Alaska. We often don't have cell service so we use my old nüvi 760. (It also runs through the car stereo system and plays audio books.) We use the red light camera and rest area POI files.

We stop and get a room once in a while as well and use the Holiday Inn POI. We just upgraded from a teardrop to a 19' Escape travel trailer (made in Canada) and I got the Cabela's POI as it's sometimes a useful spot for a quick overnight if needed. I use the Safeway POI for groceries and gas. I also use the Costco POI for gas.

There are a number of other POI files that we use from time to time. Before the first long camping trip each year I make sure to update the files I think we might want/need on the upcoming trip. I realize most folks just use their phones but we're happy doing things our own way.

Still downloading POIs

Still downloading the red light and speed cameras which comes in handy when driving around the NY tri-state area. Though my daily windshield time has decreased significantly since retiring.

I still have a list of POI files that I try to keep updated for the times we head out on a road trip. My phone is my primary for navigation but I do use my Garmin as a backup for the times when the navigation on the mobile phone decides to act up.

18 years

And still downloading plus.

I download because I

I download because I reformat the files to show me what I think is important to see. Most files display irrelevent info for me and require more searching to find info I want. They also don't fit the way I use them.

Download POI's

I do!
