How Many Of My Fellow POI Factory Members Still Download POIs?

Still download i still like them better and cheaper than a phone.

I refresh the red light and speed cameras every week and the Rest Area whenever it's updated.

I use the Garmin on long road trips and the phone with google maps to find restaurants, and I bought a 2017 road atlas to look ahead to see the sights they are all used other than redlight cameras I don't download poi's any more .

so that I can include the data in the three Garmin Nuvis I still have & use.

I continue to keep all mine updated every week.

I have a task run weekly calling up PoiSync (written by a POI Factory member) to download a list of POI's I keep updated.

I noticed the last download I did was October 16. It's not too urgent to keep the red light database updated here.

I am looking for an updated ice rink poi to include the new Wesley Chapel site. Also xtra ice in Tampa.

Every time I come here I check "My Favorite Files"

Every map update. Or I at least try to. I haven't yet done it for 2018.10, as I've been way too busy.

I still do on occasion, but I don't travel for work much anymore.

Normally, I download POIs before I travel.

I also set up a 3 mile proximity alert on the file so i can warn the little one that she should start putting on her shoes.

I download the same every week

I download the poi files because what is preloaded is often out of date. i have a gas station in the preloaded file that hasn't been there is 7 years and multiple map revisions.

About every other week. I have a list of about 50.

Speed and Red Light Cameras are a must. Mostly use my iPhone for everything else.

Me too .....Speed/Red light Cameras, Rest Areas, Tolls + a few other small/specialty files.

I download files every few weeks, as the files here are usually kept up to date better than what Garmin provides with their updates. I appreciate the effort that the maintainers put in, and try to contribute when I find an update to add.

Don't find it necessary anymore.
Waze allows me access to all those things
and I can keep it open without reaching
for my Garmin to touch the screen

Like Panache, just a simple cell phone. I update my POIs regularly.

I do, although I have kind of quit using the GPS in lieu of my smart phone. Still find the red light cams useful since Waze requires manual reporting of them. There are some I run across that are not reported by Waze because they have never been added.

When ever there are updates, like RLC and food POI's that I downloaded.

I don't have as much use for my gps as I once did, but always use it for local and certainly long distance travel. I update my favorite poi files here before the trip.

I typically check before a trip and update at that time.

I don't even update my POI files anymore.

By telepathy.. I don't have to download them they seem to know what files are needed without me prompting them to be downloaded!

I still do occasionally, but not nearly as much as I used to. Mostly, Walmarts and those that don't allow overnight parking plus rest areas and fuel locations.

with google maps, pois are obsolete....in business, we were taught that processes should be designed around the end user, not the other way around. With POIs, one has to decide to go somewhere, based on what's available. With google maps, a person could go to the best Italian restaurant as voted upon this morning, yesterday, this weekend, etc. One could navigate to the place who is selling JB Weld underwater for the cheapest price. This is navigation revolving around the end user. not the end user looking up a poi that most closely matches what they want.

Yes, the world is changing. Sometimes there are changes we don't care about, and we stay put.

I update the POI files anytime the GPS is attached to the computer and always before any out of area trips.

I make many of the alterations in my area, sticksville NS, mostly do it to turn off the flag in 'my favourite files'

RLC's and Speed Cameras get updated always before hitting the road when on vaco with the Garmin!

To get updates for RLC, food, and restroom POI. Usually before an out of town trip.

We cleaned up Pima County and Tucson for now

I do it often..

I use the std ones regularly - rest areas, red lights, school zone (old one though), and others when I travel, gas, Walmart, burger king, etc.

I will update about 4 times a year. Primarily Rest Areas, Campgrounds & Fuel Stops.

Never have downloaded the red light camera file, which is very popular. Guess I just plan on always stopping LOL

Thank you to those members collecting POIs to help many like me have fresh lists.
I use a few of the lists like RestAreas, gas stations, interstate services, red lights, hotels from chains I can use along the way. I don't have internet on my phone, this way I can have phone numbers for the hotel I use. I use i75,I77,I79, I95. Many other places you can visit like national parks.
I appreciate as members for what they do!

The RLCs seem to have stopped springing up in my neck of the woods, but you can never be too sure!

I check and download them every visit.
I usually update POI's on the units a couple days before leaving on a trip, or, after a map upgrade....

And as we traverse the country, if we find an error, we try and document the correct location with an update or try to contact a local to see what went wrong... and contact the folks here....
So at we all benefit from the 'fixes'
