As posted above, I am just wondering how many of my fellow POI members do still download POIs? I haven't for a long time. Between what is already pre-loaded on the device and the ability to use the Garmin Smartphone application and send it to my Garmin Nuvi 3597, I don't really seem to have much need for it.
Anyway, for my members that do still download POIs, what POIs do you find to be the most helpful? I used to download things like amateur radio repeaters and broadcast stations, but I haven't used those lately either.
I as well download RLC's,
I as well download RLC's, rest areas and coffee shops but not very often. Perhaps before a trip or something or when I update the maps.
Update
I update POI's before taking a long trip or when I want to find new local places. I check rest areas and eating places I like.
I do
I keep my POI files updated with each revision. I check "My Favorite Files" each time I visit the site.
My list includes: Rest Areas with Restrooms USA, WiFi "Lite", US & Canada, Offbeat Tourist Attractions - US File, National Parks, Monuments, Preserves & Historical Parks.
Thanks to all of the file maintainers.
I love the POIs maintained here--thanks!
I like the offbeat; attractions and such. Also, restaurants made famous like Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and Man v Food. Those types of places are hard to come by in pre-loaded forms like 4Square, etc.
POIs are Great!!!
We use POIs often. They are very useful and allow us to find specific locations in various categories.
I keep all of my favorites
I keep all of my favorites (about 30) up to date, especially the Rest Areas. I do look occasionally but seldom download new files anymore. I have an iPhone but when traveling I use Waze just to get traffic updates. I use my TomTom for actual navigation. I like getting alerts as I near certain POI's and that can't happen on the iPhone.
Download POI's
I do a download of POI's I am interested in from time to time.
I D/L the Red Light/Speed camera files frequently.
use poi
I still use my TomTom XXl all the time and add specialty poi's like wineries to it so I can get there easily.
I Still Do
I update general poi's each night which are new & once a week on Wed evening I download the Cameras. It then update my GPS's (still 3). Nothing like having the GPS's up to date for valuable info. My GPS's are old so new geography is not added but for the places I travel to it is no problem.
The POI's I download are businesses that I generally use locally & want to find them on a trip to another area.

I still do
I'm still download the POI.

I update 3 gps units
and I greatly appreciate the work of contributors.
Thanks
Update at least Weekly
I love this site. I travel cross-country each year and the POIs are very helpful for finding restrooms, restaurants, gas stations, etc in unfamiliar places.
I still do....
My wife would kill me if I didn't have the Rest Room POI (or the Dunkin' Doughnuts).

Just downloaded Route 66 POIs to plan a future trip. Thats why I download most of them, future trip planning either local or across the US
Still at it
i download for vacation the area im going to be in. It is very helpful to pre-plan
POI's
I have a favorite set of POI's that I download and use virtually all the time. I keep them updated as they are revised. I do edit them by eliminating locations that are not in my 6 most frequently travelled states.
The Ogre
I Do
That's the only time I'll say I DO !!
But seriously, the POI's on POI factory are far more up to date than the ones we get from Garmin.
I have many times gone to a location the Garmin told me and found that the business has totally disappeared. Once was a Super 8 motel off the Blue Ridge Parkway. All that was left was an empty lot.

Update
I have a task run weekly calling up PoiSync (written by a POI Factory member) to download a list of POI's I keep updated.
Due to the changes in the logon site (.net vs .com ) PoiSync no longer functions. It is written in Java and I cant code in Java soooooooooooo.
But I do download regularly updated versions of the POI's I use, albeit manually now

Me, Me, Me
I do like others have said. Keep my POI files updated by making a quick check of "My Favorite Files" each time I visit the site. Once a week to quickly install updates and we're always good to go for any unexpected trip
My list includes: Red Light & Speed Cameras, Rest Areas and a few others we find useful for camping.
Here's a BIG THANKS to all of the file maintainers.
Interesting to see a
Interesting to see a discussion resurrected after so many years and how things have (or have not) changed. I generally update the speed/red light cameras, rest areas, and truck stops when I prepare for out of town trips. I really appreciate the verbal alerts). Even more often, as a geocacher, I like to create my own POI files for the local area and for out of area travel. I would really miss the visual and custom audible cues as I travel without them.
Redlight & speed cameras
Are what I download on a regular basis

Yes, sort of
I do download updates of my POI files to my computer whenevre I see a new update, but I only transfer them to my GPS before a road trip or maybe 2-3 times a year, max. I don't regularly download speed/redlight files but will update them before transferring files to my GPS.
I still do
It's great to have this resource!
And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .
Regularly but rarely
I download POI files weekly, but I rarely get around to generating a new POI.gpi. I primarily use Linux, and the POI Loader doesn't install under WINE, and I rarely bother to bring up a Windows VM just for that.
Pois
I download poi's once a week
Me
I try and download at least once a week.

I came here today to see if any updates were available for my favorite files! my 13 favorites, and 2x red light and speed files!

NPR Transmitter Locations
Whenever I see an update to one of the files in "My Favorite Files", I download the updated file to my computer. I also download the new camera files every week. I use camera files, rest areas, national parks, state parks, offbeat tourist attractions, places to visit, state lines, historic landmarks, AAA office locations and NPR transmitter locations.
So I always have the current version of these files on my computer. When I get ready to take a trip or go somewhere unfamiliar, I run POI loader and update my nuvi. Sometimes that happens every week, other times I go for a month or more without updating the nuvi.
Thanks for posting Alan, I didn't know the NPR transmitter locations file existed.
Up until now, I use the NPR app on my smartphone. Works well but uses quite a bit of data.
I agree. However through
I agree. However through the resurrection of the thread I just learned about PoiSync; does anyone know if it’s been updated since 2017 when the last comment was it stopped working?
Also just hit my active status for the first time and downloaded the speed and lights lists so I plan to keep them updated.
I Do
Still do new updates all the time

D/L POI's
I still do. The red light & Speed cameras and Highway exit files are invaluable.
But I haven't done a download in a while.
I see that POI-Factory is now charging (via subscription) for those files. :.(

POI Downloads...
I do. We tend to cruise in the Spring and/or fall and in the summers we travel in the US. My wife "collects" US National Parks so we will go on multi-week camping trips in our tiny little trailer to visit more parks.
I always make sure to update the Red Light, Speed Camera, and Rest Area POI files in preparation. Additionally, I will download other POI files such as Brewpubs and other interesting places on our route. We will stop in a hotel overnight a few times on the trip to shower, eat in a restaurant, purchase groceries, etc. and I tend to stay at Holiday Inn Express as that is where I used to stay when I traveled for work. I always check for an updated POI for HIE, Safeway, and other files that fit with our hotel nights.
I still use my trusty nüvi 760 as it allows us to listen through the vehicle sound system. We listen to audio books - either .mp3 or .aud (Audible) files and the GPS will pause the book, give the next direction, then resume the book about 1 second before the spot where it paused so there is continuity. Having the book and the directions come from the vehicle sound system is great. (I could do this with my phone but it doesn't do the "pause and resume thing".
Although I connect the phone(s) to the vehicle this old GPS actually has Bluetooth connectivity which means that, long before I had the ability to connect my phone via the vehicle sound system, I was able to use the phone hands-free by connecting it to the GPS via Bluetooth and using the GPS to have hands-free phone connectivity. It amazes me that there were so many features in this early model that no longer exist in the newer models.

Thanks CraigW,
That’s the first I’ve seen about the stars program being an alternative method to maintaining active status. I think it would be helpful to update 262 with a description and link to 16197 for future new members.
Download POIs
Can I download POIs for my Garmin Driveluxe 51 LMT-S? I use the POIs on my old 760 and 1350 but I didn't have any luck trying to install the RedLight Cameras POI on my 51 LMT-S.
Absolutely

I have loaded many custom POIs including the Factory's redlight/speed POIs on my DL51 multiple times.
Describe how you are trying to load POIs to your DL51 and how it fails.
Absolutely!!!
