Garmin w/backup camera

I have a question for you folks that have a Garmin unit with the add-on backup camera.

Seeing the feature in newer cars (namely in rentals) I can see this is a feature that I could get used to very easily. My current Garmin is fine (2450 with lifetime maps) but I know my sister wouldn't be opposed to having it as she occasionally borrows it then I would just get a new one.

Anyway, the question I have is do the newer Garmins' power on faster? Right now, it takes about 20-30 seconds to boot up, display the warning screen, etc. before it is usable. For the backup camera purposes, to me, since you typically would go into reverse shortly after starting the car, it seems like an awkward wait time for the GPS to boot to be able to see from the camera, or am I completely wrong on this?

I believe you would have to have the GPS turned on to be able to use the back-up camera.
You also need to remember that the camera has to be hard wired into your back-up light circuit for the camera to get powered up when backing up.

A Youtube clip to install a back-up camera. Looks like a PIA to me !

Does the camera also work for collision avoidance?

I'm only concerned about the backup cameras that only operate when you are in reverse. I think the only one that Garmin currently does that fits that bill is the DriveAssist 50LMT w/built in dash cam. Perhaps they will add more models to the DriveAssist line but they currently only have one.

nuvi 2599 with BC-30

My nuvi is directly wired to a switched post in the fuse box. So when the car is turned on, so is the nuvi.

The BC-30 is powered when the back up lights are on.

So the overall sequence of turning on the car, nuvi powers up, shifting into reverse, activating the back up camera is about 1 or 2 seconds longer than before. Not too bad.

FWIW, not sure how slower the new models boot up compared to nuvi models.
