AZ,1-17,NBSB SUNSET POINT REST AREA RENOVATION
Sunset Point Rest Area AZ,I-17,NBSB will close on Sept 28 for renovation and will not be available to the general public on that date. During the closure, commercial truck drivers will be allowed to continue using Sunset Point to park their vehicles and get some rest. Although facilities will be limited, portable restrooms and handwashing stations will be provided for commercial drivers to use.
A temporary rest area will be available for use by passenger vehicles and non-commercial trucks at the Badger Springs Road exit on I-17 located 4 miles north of Sunset Point. The temporary facility will have parking, portable restrooms and handwashing stations. It will not be able to accommodate commercial vehicles, oversize loads, large RVs and vehicles with trailers. Motorists with those types of vehicles may use Sunset Point, if necessary, but are encouraged to use other nearby private facilities.
Robeson County Welcome Center
Just noticed that I had not incorporated the change to that rest area.
Latest status for this rest area dated 8/8/22 is that a new 6500 square-foot bldg will be built and open to the public by summer of 2023. During this reconstruction the welcome center has been relocated into smaller, temporary space until completion of the new bldg. This smaller location is 43 miles north to the rest area in Cumberland County.

tcreek submitted the following:
Th NH, US-2,EB/WB, State Rest Area is Closed. Goggle Earth Shows the cables
across the entrance.
The one at NH, US-2,EB/WB, Small Roadside Turnout may be closed. Got the
alert, but could not see it as we passed. Google Earth shows it still
there.
I contacted the city office of Shelburne,NH and received the following status. The first rest area listed above, the property has been sold and the rest area is permanently closed. I have removed that rest area from the file.
The 2nd small roadside turnout still exists, however, it is not maintained. I have left this in the file and added the words "Not Maintained" in column D.

The renovation of this rest area has been completed and it has reopened.
Reason for closure of the Rest Area in WV
Rest area: WV,I-70,WB,Welcome Center,MM13
Here is what I have found on the internet. Kind of interesting:
Motorists traveling on Interstate 70 past the West Virginia Welcome Center can expect to see construction crews making repairs and repaving that section of highway near the Pennsylvania state line after longwall mining moved beyond that location.
"Longwall mining description is shown at end of this comment"
The interstate improvements are east of Wheeling in West Virginia's northern panhandle.
In addition to upcoming road repairs, it is likely the welcome center building will remain closed until the next panel of longwall mining passes by that location early next year, said West Virginia Division of Highways (DOH) Area Engineer Mike Witherow. Still, he added, the DOH is looking at options for temporarily reopening the center soon.
"Right now, we are in a holding pattern because there is a chance the welcome center could experience effects from the next longwall panel," Witherow explained. "We'll have another panel [move through], probably in January or February."
This past April, The Hughes Corporation, of Sycamore, Pa.,, began mitigation work on the welcome center to minimize structural damage to the building as a result of possible ground subsidence. The problem arose from mining being performed hundreds of feet beneath the site by the Tunnel Ridge Coal Co., which hired Hughes to perform the mitigation work, including dividing the building into three sections.
Then, in late May, the current longwall panel encroached beneath the embankment on the eastbound side of the highway before moving beneath the welcome center in June. Witherow said July 21 the DOH hopes to finalize plans for making repairs to that section of highway and begin work within a week or two.
Longwall mining is a form of underground coal mining where a long wall of coal is mined in a single slice (typically 0.6–6.0 m thick). The section of rock that is being mined, known as the longwall panel, is typically 3–4 km (1.9–2.5 mi) long, but can be up to 7.5 km (4.7 mi) long and 250–400 m (820–1,310 ft) wide.

Thanks to Y'all for creating and maintaining this useful resource! I have one addition to the file:
34.42340, -90.46811 State of Mississippi Welcome Center
Unfortunately, I do not have any information on the features/services, as I simply passed by late at night recently. Apologies if this makes this submission insufficient.

Thanks for the input. Looking at the file, I have it listed under the name MS,US-49,SB,DELMA FURNISS HOSPITALITY STATION. However you are correct, the coordinates in the file are incorrect. I will correct these coordinates and also rename the file as MS Welcome Center (Delma Furniss Hospitality Station).
As a result of your input, I also found an error in another rest area on US 49. Thanks for your input.
Thanks.
Yes the Combined file contains both the rest areas with restrooms and the rest areas that do not have restrooms.
I guess I do not need both. I will go with the Combined files.
Some rest areas in Central Ohio to close temporarily.
The following closures were submitted by Plornch.
Rest areas in three Central Ohio counties are set to close this week so the buildings may be demolished and replaced.
The rest areas set to be town down are as follows:
Marion County rest areas at mile marker 131 along US 23 in both directions.
Union County rest areas near mile marker 97 along US 33 in both directions.
Pickaway County rest area located on US 23 southbound near mile marker 74.
The rest areas are set to close on January 11, at which point neither the buildings nor parking lots will be able to be used.
The buildings will be torn down and replaced with lodge-style buildings with indoor vending machines and local tourism information.

Ohio- I-75 Rest Areas Closures
Submitted by Plornch
I-75 Closures Dayton Daily News dated June 11, 2025
All of the state’s Interstate 75 rest areas between the Ohio River and Findlay more than 150 miles away will be closed at the same time starting July 7, as Ohio transportation officials work on totally redoing those facilities.
The rest areas near Piqua (south of exit 82) have been closed since last October as they were being demolished and replaced. They are scheduled to reopen “in the fall of 2025” according to the Ohio Department of Transportation, which could be three months away or nearly six months.
The rest areas on both sides of I-75 in Butler County (just south of exit 29) and Auglaize County (just north of exit 113) will close July 7 for complete replacement and are slated to reopen in summer 2026.
ODOT Chief Communications Officer David Rose said the reason all of them will be closed at once is that the state bundled the projects to get the best price from the contractors doing the work.
“We’re trying to do the right thing, to save money,” Rose said.
He said this strategy allows a contractor to move between nearby projects, rather than one near West Virginia and one near the Indiana line. Setterlin is the contractor for both the Butler County and Auglaize County projects.
