FYI we attempted to stop here today but it is closed, and looks like it has been for a long time (maybe permanently). The WB rest area is already listed as closed.

for rest room purposes, OK, but even then, I watch my back.

back in my college days I thought nothing about sleeping in a vehicle. There was always shady stuff going on at rest areas. but after Michael Jordan's dad, it came to the forefront.

I still slept in cars after that time and remember one incident where a VT State Trooper's vehicle was parked right next to me when I awoke, with nobody else in the rest area, and no trooper to be found. I had always thought in my mind that was somehow to protect me? Or arrest me (although no reason to), one or the other, but protect makes more sense.

For the last 20 years I would not feel safe at any rest area other than if it were one of those with fast food etc. Not even in a RV etc. or a tractor for that matter.

Guess I am too paranoid?

Thanks for the input. I will mark this rest area as closed. I tried researching for info regarding the long term status of this rest area without success. Maybe one of the factory members knows the status and can add to this.

Thanks for the input. My responses are as follows:

Under Update POI
The coordinates in the file were incorrect. I have made the corrections for these 2 rest areas. However, I did use coord at the entrance to these rest areas off of hwy US-69 and not within the rest areas. I did this for the users that use proximity alerts.

Under Delete POI
The two entries were not suppose to be duplicates. One was for EB and the other for WB. I corrected the coordinates.

Under New POI
I added both the Hopkins County Rest Areas.
I added the Harlingen Travel Information Center.
Note:This location is in an area with cross street/highways
and the actual address is included. In addition, the
word "address" is listed in Column C. Using GE, I
could not find any signs on US77/83 indicating
directions to this Information Center.
For the Victoria County Rest area, see comments under Delete POI

So many rest areas are closed it’s hard to keep track of them all.

While traveling, user Davecantor noticed this specific rest area (RI,I-195,REST AREA, MM2.5), is actually in MA and not RI and that it is presently closed with barricades at both the entrance and exit. I have made the the changes to show that this rest area is in MA and is presently closed. In addition, I used google earth to
determine that the MM needed to be changed from 2.5 to 6.0. It now reads (MA,I-195, Closed REST AREA, MM6.0)

As a result of this, I looked at the official MA website for any additional rest areas located on I-195. I found that 5 rest areas are listed:

I-195 Northbound-Mile Marker 2.5- Rest Area
I-195 Southbound-Milw Marker 2.5- Rest Area
I-195 Northbound-Mile Marker 6.0- Rest Area
I-195 Southbound-Mile Marker 6.0- Rest Area
I-195 Mile Marker 37- Rest Area
Google earth indicates this rest area at MM37 is Northbound access only.

As shown, none of these "rest areas" have any details listed. Using GE, I have listed what I believe to be the facilities available at each of them.
The rest area at Northbound,MM2.5 has a Weigh station sign and the Southbounb,MM2.5 has a closed sign at entrance. Neither of these appear to have restroom so they will not be listed in the file "REST AREAS WITH RESTROOMS".
ALL 5 will be added to the (COMBINED FILE) and I have included the listing of what I believe is available at the remaining 3.

I very briefly thought about traveling to this area to obtain the specifics, but since my home is in east central Florida, that idea disappeared quickly. But seriously, if there are any members that live or travel in this vicinity, please take note of them. I appreciate any help in helping to keep these files updated.

Updated the status of the TN interstate rest areas and added the I-81 jefferson county rest area MM2.

This is one of my "MUST HAVE" poi files. Red Light Cameras and Rest Areas are two I don't leave home without. Hopefully this stooooooooooooooopid virus will be under control one day and we can go back to making cross-country camping trips. POI Factory files have been invaluable for those trips whether the info is for the US or Canada.

1.Updated the open/close status for the rest areas.

2.Added the PA welcome center, located on I-95, NB, MM0.5

MAIN ENTRANCE TO THIS REST AREA IS LOCATED AT MM502 AND THE COORDINATES WERE RECENTLY COORECTED BY REXDEE.
AS A RESULT OF THIS CORRECTION AND LOOKING AT GOOGLE EARTH, A 2ND ENTRANCE (BACK ENTRANCE) IS APPARENTLY AVAILABLE VIA THE FRONTAGE
ROAD AT MM504. THIS BACK ENTRANCE HAS A SMALL PARKING AREA (ONLY 10 SPACES) FOR CARS ONLY.
A SHORT WALK PROVIDES ACCESS TO ALL FACILITIES AT THIS REST AREA.
UPON LEAVING THIS SMALL PARKING AREA, JUST TURN LEFT AND PROCEED
SOUTH FOR 1.25 MILES TO RETURN TO I-35 SB.

IN ORDER TO ADD THIS LISTING AT MM504, IS THERE ANYONE LIVING OR TRAVELING IN THIS AREA THAT CAN POSSIBLY CONFIRM THIS?

Isn't this maybe just for employee access?

I was thinking the same thing when I was looking at Google Earth, but I did not see any sign that prohibited travelers from using this small parking area. I was hoping that someone would possibly have first hand knowledge of this.

Decided to make a call to this Rest Area for the information. It is there for employee access, however, travelers can also make use of this
small parking area. Just observe the same regulations as the main parking area.

As a result, I will be adding this back parking area to the Rest Area Files

Looking at Google Earth, I decided to move the coordinates for both the EB an WB rest areas/Welcome Ctr. I have placed these new
coordinates at the Interstate sign showing the name of the rest areas. It is shown as the ATCHAFALAYA WELCOME CENTER. I added
this name to Column D since it is also listed as BUTTE LA ROSE REST AREA as listed in Column C.
I also updated the facilities. Added VM (vending machines) and also removed the statement (RV Dump)
Access to either of these rest aresa are via Exit 121. Therefore the MM was changed to MM 121.

different software that I use will not convert ???

The present file has 17 of these in the file and all are located on Interstates I-10, I-4, I-75 and I-95.

These have previously been noted on the file download page and have been in the file for a number of past revisions.

A user recently sent me a comment that one of these caused a little confusion when the GPS Alert stated restroom ahead and expected it to accomodate all travelers not just trucks.

Looking at the present listings, I have the County listed first, for example:

Column C: FL,I-10,EB,ESCAMBIA COUNTY TRUCK COMFORT STATION, MM3

To differentiate these from all of the other rest areas, I believe that listing TRUCK COMFORT STATION followed by the County name will help to minimize any confusion for these specific Truck Comfort Stations.

Column C: FL,I-10,EB,TRUCK COMFORT STATION ESCAMBIA COUNTY, MM3

Looking at the GPS when traveling, will show quicker that this is in fact a Truck Comfort Station.

During this review, I also found 3 additional Truck Comfort Stations for a total of 20.

The problem I have with most of the POI files is that the relevant information one needs, when on the road, requires the driver to access the GPS to switch to a different line to see it. IE, the RR,PT,VM,Pets,HF,TRUCKS. That is not driver friendly or safe. IMHO, it would be much better to have that info appear when the rest area is alerted so that it only required the driver to glance at it to determine if it was what is needed. The info about where it is is not relevant. If you don't know what state, or road you are traveling in/on you shouldn't be driving. The direction of travel should also be listed up front as there are some RAs that are only on one side but still produce an alert if traveling in the opposite direction.
So, column C would read "WB,TO,RR,,VM,Pets" - (TO=trucks only) and column D would have the other info.

The GPS Coordinates on this entry are actually on I35 SB, so when traveling northbound, navigation routes a U-turn at the next exit.

Updated the open/close status of a number of rest areas using the various state rest areas websites. NOTE: Some of these sites do not appear to be recently updated. I would appreciate any inputs from the users of this file regarding the latest status listed in the file.

Corrected the coordinates for the Lusk rest area in WY.
Added the Salt River Canyon rest area in AZ.

Stopped there today they are closing March 1, 2022 for 13 months.
According to the attendant it will be a ground up reconstruction.

In Vermont, on I-89, the state DOT is signing on their exit signage on each
end of I-89, in white on green, that the below rest area is 24 hour. The
facility is an Irving Oil property. All other rest areas on I-89 are
limited hours for building access. They do have porta potty for off hours
