Traffic info flawed sometimes on NuviCam

Hello Friends,

I am not sure how many members in this forum own NuviCam. Secondly, how many are using NuviCam with Smart Link app for traffic.

I have noticed many times in the evening that I see traffic pop up on the screen indicating that there was 9 minutes delay ahead but it will add only couple of minutes to the arrival time. But there will not be real 9 minutes delay ahead anyways and then it will clear the delay but the arrival time will not change.

I have reported to Garmin with screenshots from my Nuvi. I am sure they will take endless time to fix it.

Why do you think

Why do you think that is a Garmin problem? The NuviCam is reporting WHAT IT RECEIVED. If the unit reported a problem and then failed to display it or displayed a problem but didn't report it, then I would say it was a Garmin problem. But it didn't do that. It displayed information about a traffic problem it received and showed the reported area. The unit isn't responsible for the traffic being cleared, the traffic reporting system Smartlink uses from the web was the problem and Garmin can't fix somebody else's problem.

Not Just Nuvicam

I often get traffic delay reports with live traffic on my 3597, usually 10 minutes or less, which clear themselves before I arrive. These reports are almost always more than 20 miles ahead of my location and like you, they only add a couple of minutes to the arrival time. I don't see this as a problem, just a minor traffic issue that cleared quickly.

I don't know how the nuvi's calculate route time but I'm sure there are many factors involved. The unit can't possibly know how quickly a traffic report will clear. These minor reports are usually indicated as < (Less than) 10 minutes so adding 10 minutes to the arrival time wouldn't be accurate either. I suspect the unit adds a couple of minutes to the arrival time as an average.

To further compound this issue, I have made 15 minute pit stops which add only 5 minutes to my indicated arrival time. You can sit in a rest area and watch the arrival time increase but not in direct relation to the clock.

In any case, I'm usually impressed by the overall arrival time accuracy.

I have no complaints

I have no complaints regarding traffic....because my old NUVI 750 does not know about traffic.

Sorry, may be I could not make my point clear. It happened again today.
I was navigating to home from work. Nuvi was showing my arrival time to destination 5:32 PM. Then I got Traffic pop up that there was traffic delay of 15 minutes on my route. So with this 15 minutes delay added to my route, my arrival time should have changed to 5:47 PM? But no, my arrival time still remained at 5:32 PM. I went through the traffic delay which was only couple of minutes only. After clearing the traffic, my arrival time did not change, it was still 5:32 PM.

So I think I can blame Garmin for this bug because the Garmin software did not calculate delay and add it to the arrival time estimate. I hope I made my issue clear.

Yup

Me thinks you found something for Garmin to address. But I will say that Box Car was correct in his answer based on the information you provided. It's the old GIGO situation, Garbage In, Garbage Out.

I usually do not pay attention

I usually do not pay attention to the reports for many a time I would be driving in the desert at 75-80 mph and the Garmin would blurb out "Traffic ahead", I would mute the thing until I know I will be turning or entering a big city.
I have driven through ST. Louis at 65mph and the Garmin would show a delay of 10 minutes or had the warning and came to a stop for an hour in a tunnel where it could not receive a signal. If you drive tho 101 in LA downtown it would almost be showing slow traffic all day long.
