That's quite a surprise. Normally there is a 10 - 15 page thread "anticipating" the next update. Now I just have to remember to actually do the update one of these days.

Well we could talk about how the new version is 2017.10 and the first month of 2016 isn't through with yet ....

... as the EU map has been out for a couple of weeks, although that was named 2016.30 ... which is gonna confuse those of us this side of the pond now you guys have a map released at about the same time but named differently

How silly of someone to call this 2017.10. I wonder what the reasoning for this is.

Only Garmin would change (now that they've changed it) the numbering system to further confuse people rather than make it more clear.

the update will just have to wait until we get back from a couple of weeks in Mexico. By them it will be well tested and reported here.

Probably to mirror standard road atlases. For example, a 2016 atlas available for sale in 2015. After all they cannot just rename it 2016.10 as that has already been used.

Does the new naming routine mean that the updates will have greater amount of fixes and corrections, or does it mean that the next update will occur sometime in 2017?

The EU map released a few weeks ago was the expected 2016.30, why the NA one is 2017.10 only Garmin know I suspect!

Look out, rumors are the next release will be 2020.20

Back To The Future!

Wish my in dash units didn't cost an arm and a leg to update.

My 2011 Ford Escape half the time does not display where we are... (It gets "Lost" easily)..
And I've used it in parallel with Garmin, and doesn't do as good a job as Garmin 660 does...(When I first got it, when both Maps were current)...
At $200-300 per update (I've been given the "Privledge" of purchasing 3 of them ---- at times with "Free" shipping, Instead of the normal $25 shipping charge)..... I've sent repeated emails that They should only call me when Lifetime Updates are available for $50 or so...

I now have 2689 with Lifetime Map & Traffic, and it totally runs rings around the Escape GPS.

With the 660 and 2689 both being as good as they are, I don't see me even trying an update in the Escape...

And I haven't mentioned POI's.....

That is one of the reasons that I chose a standalone GPS. Two of the other ones are I can take it with me when traveling (rental car) and I am not locked out when the car is in gear.

The real question is, did they actually change anything? I haven't noticed any updates to reflect roads made in the past 5 years or so.

That's too bad for your area. I've seen changes in the new map from roadways completed in the last six months up in my neck of the woods and read here from someone else about map revisions for very recently completed streets. I expect that the state or county folks who update maps with the roadway changes are responsible to a large degree for either prompt or delayed map updates.

Looks like the gripe thread for this map update will end up just as long as the anticipation threads for previous updates, hehe.

We have a few misspelled roads that have been like that for years.

Several map errors in my area were corrected after I sent in corrections, spelling and phantom roads never completed. They showed up about 1 update after I sent in the correction on the Garmin site.

Do you have a link to where a novice user would go to put in corrections and update suggestions for future garmin maps? I know there use to be one, I just forgot how to get there.

Currently, Here is the map for Garmin. Garmin has no maps. It has license agreements with Here to supply them with the maps, which Garmin adapts for use in the GPS units.

We should start the "When is the 2017.20 going to be released" thread now?

and that should be good for summer travelling.

They messed us up on the numbering for this one.

I updated and when the GPS unit booted back up, it noted maps were updated. However, when I connect it to Garmin Express, it still shows 2017.10 maps to be to be updated. Any way to verify via Settings About or other method that it was already updated? The software does show 2016.
