The

The large full screen view file wasn't released for download by Garmin for 2015.40. The chances that there will be a file available for 2016.10 are slim.

Large JCV Availability

The file is installed on certain models of Garmin which means that everyone with those models who have upgraded have the file but no one is willing to share for the less fortunate. On another thread, I offered to post the file with a link if someone would give it to me but no one offered.

The 2015.40 file was posted at GPS Underground. The 2016.10 file currently posted at GPS Underground is the wrong file name and does not work with the official download.

Large JCV

I too was lamenting the non-availability of the larger file. But I can honestly say that the split file on my 2797 is great. But that may be because of the large 7" screen, it might be different on a smaller screen.

The problem is that it's a massive file, almost a gig. You'd need some darn good upload speeds to do it in a reasonable time frame.

And, once that link hits the internet, you can be assured everyone and their dog will share it. This is why accounts get suspended. 100's of gigs of server traffic.

I hope you're successful, but I wonder if the older, smaller models (mine's a Nuvi 1450) will be able to use the exact same large JCV file as the newer, bigger models.
My 1450 has an SD card and up until the last map, I was able to use the large JCV even though I had to install it separately. What I don't remember is whether the ones I was installing separately were exactly the same as the ones everybody else was installing on newer models. Go get 'em.

Most

Most newer model Nuvi's use the Full Split Screen JCV file which has the same number of views as the Large Full Screen JCV file but is only half the size.

The large Full Screen file that rookie8155 has offered to make available will be the same one that he had installed on his 765 and would be the one any person couid download from the Garmin site if it were still available (which it isn't). If you can get the file it will work on any Nuvi that supports Junction Views and has the physical room for it, either on the device or it's SD card. This includes the devices that orginally had Full Screen views as well as the newer models that use Split Screen views by default.

BitTorrent?

Could BitTorrent be used to distribute the Large Junction View?

I know this is how I get most of my Linux distros. It eases the load on the servers.

Full Coverage JCV.

AFAIK, the only Garmin devices that are getting the full screen full coverage (large) JCV file on the current map update are the nuvi 7x5 series and the zumo 660. The 7x5 series can still hold the full NA map and the large JCV in internal memory if you clean out all unused language, text and help files. Even with this, the storage is getting pretty tight. As these are older devices (2008 - 2009 vintage) with storage constraints, I wonder if Garmin will even create the large JCV file on future updates ... only time will tell.

Besides excessive server and bandwidth requirements and possible account suspension, the other problem that might turn up if someone publishes the large JCV file for download is copyright / piracy issues. I suspect if Garmin wanted the file published, they would put it on their own servers.

It is on the Garmin Servers...

It is on the Garmin Servers!

They are just neglecting to make it easily available to all of their NUVI GPS units that can utilize it.

They were helpful in the past, but don't even communicate on the matter presently.

1390T

I haven't downloaded 2016.10 for my 1390T yet. Does anyone know if the download will come with the large or small JCV file? Anyone know where I can get the large JCV?

@jackrabbit000

small JCV on the 1390T (limited coverage, not photo real). There probably are illegal copies of the large JCV on some nefarious pirating sites, just like the last map version, but I wouldn't recommend using those sites. The best way to get the file is to find a friend or relative that has a 7x5 or zumo 660 with lifetime map updates.

As mentioned in my previous post, use your file compression program to split the file into two archives. Then host those archives on http://mega.co.nz and provide links. Mega uploads and downloads quickly, and a lot of my developer friends on XDA Developers use it without trouble as it is highly reliable. People wanting the file will download both parts. They then assemble the file using their file compression program.

Large JCV is Now Available

The file everyone is wanting has now been made available at GPS Underground. It is in three parts that must all be downloaded and then extracted using 7-Zip or similar program. I downloaded the last part this morning and did the extraction and tested the file on my 1490. It works great!

I am intrigued by the number of concerns expressed over the download and use of this file. How do those folks ever muster the courage to get behind the wheel of a car?

I do applaud the efforts of rookie8155 to help those like myself who have been abandoned by Garmin.

This brings up a question I had. My 765 is getting a bit low on internal storage, but it still downloaded the full jcv file to internal storage. If I wanted to move the .jcv file to the SD card, do I just create a Garmin\JCV directory on the SD card, and move the .jcv there, while keeping the map files where they are?

Yes

Yes. The only other requirement is that the original file on the nuvi needs to be deleted or disabled. You may also need to power down and reboot the nuvi for it to use the new location. You will need to repeat this with each map update.

Thanks for moving the large JCV file to GPS Underground. What's the link and the topic name? Is it just the JCV or the entire whole shootin' match?

There is one caveat on this if your 765 actually gets to the point where the entire NA map and large JCV won't fit in internal memory. Garmin Express will offer to install on SD, but it will put the map files as well as the JCV file on SD. If you want only the JCV file on SD, you will need to manually copy and rename the map files back to internal storage. Or your other option is to install a reduced region that will fit.

The file is in the JCV section and has been uploaded in three parts. All parts are necessary for extraction. Free downloads require that you put with some advertising and wait 1 hour between downloads. Kind of a pain but works well in the absence of Garmin being supportive of the products they sell.

I got the file from the other site, and it does not appear to be the correct/same as the previous "Large JCV files"
that one might have downloaded directly from Garmin in the past for photorealistic exit views.

It crashes a 1300 I have successfully used the large file on in the past.

EDIT

I was using full NA map that wanted the JCV file to have the name, D3191170B.JCV

I renamed that downloaded file (D3060180B.JCV) to that name and it worked perfectly.

So

That wouldn't even work on 2016.10, would it? If it's working, then the user still is running 2015.40.

Just a thought

Perhaps someone from here who owns a 7x5 series and has the large junction view file would be willing to burn it on a DVD and then send it for a small fee ?

10$ as an example could cover the DVD & postage costs along with his time. Doing 25 of these to help out fellow members might then become much more interesting idea

No,

the detail map I am using on the 1300 is the official 2016.10 full North America from a 2555LMT

the JCV that came with the 2555LMT is named D3191170B.JCV (480MB)

using the unlocked same detail map, on a 1300,
and using the newest downloaded D3060180B.JCV
caused the 1300 to crash when it had that name.

renaming the new JCV file (840MB) to the same as what came with the 2555 ,
the problem goes away.

I just posted becase previous usage of the official Garmin Full photorealistic JCV never seemed to have an issue no matter what detail map I used.

D3060180B.JCV works fine on 855

I don't have a way to test a 13xx/14xx nuvi, but I can say that the official Garmin D3060180B.JCV file downloaded for the 7x5 series works fine on my 855 without renaming or changing it in any way. Makes me wonder about the file you get from the "other" site.

OTOH, it could have just been one of those unexplained Garmin anomalies that made your 13xx crash. Maybe a hard reset would have resolved it.

Downloaded

Thanks again.

Downloaded ... resulting file did NOT work ...

... so, here goes my rant: Seriously, what difference does it make - to Garmin, or anyone else, for that matter - whether any given person uses the large or the small junction view file? I prefer the fullscreen sign view, especially with the 2455's smaller display when I am on my motorcycle. I can adapt with the 2555"s larger screen, but it remains that it should be MY decision whether I want to use fullscreen or splitscreen. If Garmin wants me to purchase an upgraded GPSr, their strategy may have backfired. I feel I overpaid for this device to start with. Shame on Garmin for denying me the right to use my own device as I see fit after I paid for the license. They should be falling all over themselves to make this right, and release the large junction-view file to anyone who can use it. /rant

For the sake of argument I'd like to point out that you only purchased the hardware. The software is licensed, not sold. Thus Garmin can prevent you from using the large file and there's not a lot you can do about it. Buying a device that supports the full screen junction view being the obvious exception.
