Nav voice not working Nuvi 2555

My Nuvi 2555 isn't providing voice directions when I set a destination. The voice does work for camera and speed trap alerts. My guess is that I accidentally changed a setting somewhere, but I can't figure it out.

Check the settings

and be certain you have a voice selected. Units have been known to mysteriously change their settings and deselect a voice. Perhaps they suffer from laryngitis?

Audio mixer

See p 4-5 of the owners manual:

http://static.garmincdn.com/pumac/nuvi_2405_2505_series_OM.p...

It appears that the 2555 has an audio mixer in addition to the master volume. It may be that the mixer's Nav setting has been muted.

As already mentioned, make sure a voice is selected. I suggest choosing only voices that "Speak Street Names." See p 67.

No Voice

Thanks for the replys. I made a discovery that I'm not sure how to fix. When I go to "Settings> Language & Keyboard" There is nothing listed for "Voice Language". When I tap it to try and make a selection, it just beeps, but no choices come up.

Run Garmin Express http://connect.garmin.com/en-US/start amd let it update what is needed. You can go back and remove what you don't want http://www.poi-factory.com/node/31186

Ok, that's something.

Have you by any chance gone into the nuvi looking to delete unneeded files to free up extra space for map updates, etc. and then deleted files?

When you look at the files in your nuvi (connected to your computer and viewed as a computer drive), what do you see in the Voice folder?

It's possible that by connecting your nuvi to the computer, then running WebUpdater, that you could restore and missing voices, assuming the issue is missing voice(s). If WebUpdater doesn't succeed, then going to the myGarmin website and looking for voices to download/install would work—as will using Garmin Express, then (I think) going to the Extras or maybe Updates to look for voices you can add.

Then, too, if your Voice folder on your nuvi is empty and if you have a computer backup of the nuvi when it was able to speak, then copying the contents of the Voice folder in the backup to the nuvi should result in success.

If your nuvi's Voice folder has files present, then I suggest doing a hard reset to the nuvi which may have the nuvi remember that it has voices to offer you in the nuvi's menus.

Good luck and report back.

Thanks

I ran Garmin Express which didn't solve the issue. I started digging around and found that my voice files were missing. Went into the backup on my computer and copied the file back to the device and it looks like it's working. Thanks all!

Glad it worked out.I checked the Garmin FAQ and only found this. But you should have plenty of room. The FAQ here shows 2555 4 or 8 GB (might be 2 versions. Strange things do happen.

Why are there voices missing on my device after I updated the map?

After the maps have been updated on a Garmin device, it is possible that the process removed some voice files to make space for the update. If the required voice is missing, it can be reloaded using Garmin Express.

Open Garmin Express
Click Device
Click the Optional Updates link
Under Optional Updates, click on Language Files
Check the desired languages
Click Add to Updates

Once the desired voice languages have installed, refer to the FAQ: How do I change the voice language on a dezl, nuvi, LIVE, Camper/RV, or zumo device?
