Trouble with rest area download

I am having a problem downloading the rest area file and only that file.
I was downloading this file for years with my old laptop (HP with vista) I use the latest POI loader program.
My new laptop (HP with Windows 7 professional) When I try to open and save the file, I get a error message "system data exception and it can't find the file"
I am using a free opener program.
My old program will not work with this computer. (But only with this file)
I would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks

Have been following

I have been following this thread and my only comment is that the RAC file has been downloaded successfully over 175,000 times in it's present format.
For the next update I will eliminate the period for an underscore.
The reason for the version had been addressed eons ago !

MrKenFL, you are correct. I have downloaded the Rest Areas file many times and run POI Loader successfully. Two periods did not affect that process.

Timantide's file opener is set to open all downloads by default. File opener cannot deal with two periods. He is the only one affected. Still, it would be better for you to use an underscore for the next update.

We all appreciate your work in maintaining the Rest Areas file. It always works flawlessly because of the accurate POI location on the exit ramp.

Let me add my words of appreciation to those of dobs108. Yours is my most loved POI file. Thanks for all your efforts.

By the way, Free Opener did not have any problem opening the RestAreas POI file containing a period in the version section of the name.

I'm sure all of us also hope that Timantide works out the problem with File Opener.

Thanks

Thanks, MrKen, for all the work you've done to date and to change the filenaming in the future in case it may help some users.

Like others, I've never had an issue downloading or using your file.

That's a logical explanation, File Opener is set to open all downloads by default.

I too have never experienced any problems with the Rest Area file even with the two periods. Member Timantide is the first that I recall ever mentioning he was unable to download the file.

@MrKenFL
I thank you for your efforts in maintaining the file and making the change that affects only 1 member.
I'm sure all members are appreciative of your work.

I don't blame you, I have downloaded this file for 6 yrs without any problems. When I changed computers (from vista to #7) I started to have a problem downloading the "Rest Area" file.
Obviously it is my program reading the file.
I changed programs (again) and now it will download the file but not let me send it to the GPS with POI opener. This is the only file I have a problem with. There is something I am doing wrong, but I don't know what.
I haven't given up in 72 yrs and don't intend to start now.
I give you great credit for maintaining this file and can't guess the work that goes into it
Thanks.

YOU DO NOT NEED ANY PROGRAM EXCEPT POI LOADER (excuse me for shouting)

If you have already "opened" the file with anything (really - anything), then please download RestAreasCombined(Ver.BO).csv one more time into a new Folder.

Now, run POI Loader and point it to that Folder and let it compile onto your device.

Please report.

Why?

Timantide

By "it" you mean the opener file. Why would you use that to send a file to the GPS? Or maybe a better question is: why is it interfering with poi loader handling a file?

I'd get rid of that program in a heartbeat.

I never get lost, but I do explore new territory every now and then.

You dont need to open the file.

There are numerous people on here that use windows 7 (me included) that have downloaded that file with no issue.

Just down load it and send it to the GPS using Poi loader!

Nuvi 2460LMT.

That's the "too simple"

That's the "too simple" answer. It's also the correct one. After all, right clicking the file and selecting "Open with" (paraphrased) is all that's really needed here, not some silly little program whose only purpose is to duplicate a built-in function and steal CPU cycles doing it.

There is a reason I do not blindly follow the recommendations of sites like CNet, that reason being that often what CNet recommends adds needless complexity to a simple function. There are times when a program can be useful. For example, I use notepad++, because it allows me to edit smali code in Android apps more efficiently than if I were to use plain notepad, or Office for that matter. As a side benefit I use it to make minor tweaks to my POI files, such as adding a line or two per entry so the Streetpilot GPS software on my phone can find my POIs. But if I didn't need or want to do stuff like that I would not have the program on my PC.

easy

Once the "Save as" pop-up shows up I click on the old file in my PC and the name of the file being downloaded gets swapped for the same name as the one in my PC, jus say YES to overwrite the old file.
