DriveSeries and bluetooth pairing phones and vehicles.

Ia it possible to pair the vehicle AND the DriveSmart series AND my phone at the same time. I tried this with my old 2689 and managed to mess things up.. so loath to try again with my new DS65 LMT.
Ideally, I would want the DS to only show text messages, leaving my current (flip) phone paired to my vehicle where the hands free option works perfect (for me).
As I recall.. trying with my 2689 it gave me an all or nothing condition, the 2689 would connect to the phone but stop the vehicle from connecting.. and thus not letting me use the hands free control buttons on the steering wheel.
EDIT:
Which.. probably indicates a limitation of my phone being able to pair to only one thing at a time...... so, can the DS pair to the vehicle??
Thank you for your time

In reference to your edit. This is per Garmin support .Garmin devices are not compatible with Bluetooth systems in vehicles.
Bluetooth-enabled Garmin devices will only pair with compatible mobile phones, although a few models may also pair with a Bluetooth headset. https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=f74ugbAHq88tE3Xtd49tPA...

different brand but
tomtom is paired with phone, the car, a tablet, don't care if I lose it in the airport computer, obdii,
and will run through the car to any device that pairs with the car
I have not worked out yet how to turn 'automatic bluetooth' off, in the car or ANY OTHER DEVICE

Perhaps this process of pairing

My experience
Ralph, my experience with both my nuvi 3597 and DriveLuxe 51, my Subaru and my Android smartphone with the Garmin app is that I have the smartphone Bluetoothed to the Garmin device for GPS features like traffic, parking, weather, etc. but have my Google Contacts, voice calls and texts sent to my Subaru. It works well and lets me call or receive calls through the Subaru without removing my hands from the steering wheel and with better audio quality and volume that if sent to the Garmin device.
The Subaru can display or speak text messages and uses the Subaru's speaker and mike for voice calls using the smartphone's cellular connection while simultaneously keeping the smartphone and GPS Bluetoothed via cellular data for traffic, etc.
To do this, be sure to configure the smartphone app to not use the Garmin device for voice calls or texts. I can't remember what the app's default settings are.
Thanks all
So it seems “no”. Sadly my Toyota Highlander (2011) does/will not display or announce text messages. But, I don’t know if this is a limitation of the car or my flip phone. ( or, my ability to find he the right settings). And with only a flip phone using the various “apps” are out of the question as well..
Thanks again for your thoughts.
Cheers

Not sure what type of service you have with your flip phone. If you use it only for some phone calls, why not purchase a cheap smartphone? I have a prepaid plan that does all I want to do. That way you will be able to receive calls and text on your car system. You can google how to transfer your contacts from flip phone to smartphone. I done it years ago. Fairly simple process.

Well
I have my phone paired to my DriveSmart 50 and my car. My car system handles the calls and texts but won't display WhatsApp messages so I have them set to display on my GPS, so it's certainly possible to do what you want. Whether your particular car/phone combo allows it I don't know but there is no problem with the DriveSmart end.

On my 3597, I have to
On my 3597, I have to disable the IPHONE part. It fights with the Radio to handle calls, and also contributes to ending the long running problem with the 3597 and Auto Pairing with Bluetooth.

I have to disagree. I have seen both my Galaxy S20 and my GMC Intellilink both connected to my 3597 at the same time. Granted, the Intellilink probably wasn't communicating any info - but it was connected!
