HP slate

Any body had comments on these. I have had 2, first locked up looking for a pass word. After a trip to Colorado, India and Phillapines and back to India I was told the unit was faulty derrr. Relacement unit failed to turn on. I was sent a replacemnt, in the meantime I had purchaced a Samsung tab3, it worked perfectly out the box, one small problem which was solved via "live chat". I have yet to switch on the third replacement. What suprise awaits?????????????????.

HP

I don't know what happened to HP. I have had a few HP products (my laptop is a HP) they used to be very good. I purchased a HP wireless printer, it worked for a short time and then just stopped. I spent over an hour on the phone with their support (first in the Philippines and then India)They finally sent me a new printer. I had to send the old one back. The new one didn't work right out of the box. Back on the phone with support (this time well over an hour) I still don't have a printer from them (they did send me a whole set of extended ink cartridges for my trouble)
Lots of ink but no printer!
I don't think I want to do business with them again.

Junk

First of all, there is more than one thing sold by HP under the "Slate" name, so you need to better define what you are talking about. They even have a Win7 device sold under the name Slate, as well as Android tablets.

I lost interest in the HP Android offering the day it was announced when I saw that it wasn't even announced with the current Android version but rather an older version. And by the time it actually came to market it was very far behind in Android releases.

As far as I know there are both Android 4.1 and now Android 4.2.2 versions of Slate. I don't know if there are any newer versions of JellyBean or any KitKat Android Slate devices, I haven't seen any. And now even KitKat is coming to the end of it's life cycle.

At least the Slate has a GPS and the company knows enough to promote that in their specifications. I've seen several Android tablets that fail to mention that they have a GPS even though they do. (I spent over a half hour for a tablet that I was interested in with Lenovo "Customer Service" and even they didn't know, turns out it did have the GPS, no thanks to Lenovo "Customer Service".) And it is even harder to find out what other sensors a particular tablet may have (compass, gyro and so on).

A very special thanks to all reply, will keep all informed.

Good luck with it!

HP definitely used to be a better company.
I have one of HP's older Touch Pads that I got during their fire sale a few years ago for a little over $100 when they discontinued them.
They indicated they were getting out of the tablet business (I guess they changed their minds).
It came with the Web OS operating system.
I rooted the system so it would dual boot into Android or Web OS.
The Android community has done a good job of keeping this tablet updated and it is now running the KitKat 4.4.4 (Evervolv) operating system with no problems.
HP had the processor running at 1ghz which is well below the speed it was designed for by it's manufacturer, which is 1.5ghz. I run an app that increases the processor speed to 1.76ghz which it still handles with no problems.
It's a great little workhorse that never gives me any problems.
Sometimes it just looks like HP doesn't know what they're doing.
