I regularly check MYGARMIN.COM to see if a newer map is available. It never told me 2014.40 was out. It also didn't tell me 2015.10 was out, but I read about it here.

I updated my GPS firmware, then updated GarminMapUpdater, then downloaded 2015.10. It went without a hitch.

I am just disappointed that MYGARMIN.COM isn't telling me when the new maps come out.

Sounds like we need a POI-FACTORY.COM! Simple, accurate, fast.

Thanks. Will try it out later.

Success

I updated without a hitch! I installed the latest Garmin Express for the Mac before I updated to 2015.10

another mygarmin glitch

My standard MO is to hook up my Nuvi 270, and visit the website for updates. Commonly I'll find that it claims to have updates, but the version number seems low so I disconnect my nuvi and check there and lo and behold I have that or those (NA and EU) mao versions. Shouldn't it check what's on the machine to find updates? One would think so.
Also, on the subject of DEM map being removed. Can anyone say factually that my Nuvi 270 uses the gmapdem.img file? Since there isn't one on it, maybe it was removed. There was a comment earlier that if the unit has 3D ability the DEM wasn't used.

No DEM

The DEM map was only available on newer high-end nuvi models. Your 270 fails on both requirements.

From Garmin's nuvi 270 specs:

Maps & Memory

Preloaded street maps: Yes (Transatlantic)
Includes lifetime map updates: No
nüMaps Guarantee: yes
3-D terrain view: No
3-D buildings and landmarks view: No

Built-in memory: internal solid state
Accepts data cards: SD™ card (not included)
Waypoints/favorites/locations: 500

thanks

My handheld Oregons do, so thats what counts.

Thanks

Thanks for the fyi
