Squirrely Voice

Give us a clue...

Give us a clue as to what voice you are speaking of.

And Welcome

I hope you have already done a backup of your unit.

Probably this

I never tried any of these since they do not offer Text to Speech and therefore won't speak street names. Some are not free, either. If Wallace & Gromit were free and offered Text-to-Speech though, I'd have to give it a try cool

TTS

Are there any custom voices that have TTS support? I've seen lots of voices available for Garmin units, but not a single one that could do TTS.

Not me, either

I haven't heard of any either. If any existed, I imagine we'd have heard of them by now so my bet is that they don't exist.

I could list me several reasons for thinking this way--but if I did, someone would shatter my thoughts by posting a source for custom TTS voices...so I won't twisted

probably not.

The custom voices are based on recordings of specific words and phrases. TTS voices are computer generated so they can "read" the street name text.

Just sound files

Those voices, like Squirrley, Yeti and others, are just a bunch of sound files.

I cannot understand the squirrel.

Yeti is funny for a change of pace.

TTS voices such as Karen, Jill and others are all recorded by actual people however, what is stated by the person are sounds or phonems that are joined together to make words. They may record both RIGHT and ERR where RIGHT is used in a direction such as Turn Right and ERR is used as part of the street name Wright, Road or Ramp.

You have to pay attention to understand the squirrel voice, but if you do, there's a lot of humor in what he says. A lot of it is pretty cute.
