Do You Use Google Maps Or Apple Maps On Your Apple iPhone?

My first experience with Apple iPhones was when my work issued me one three years ago. One year ago a bought my own Apple iPhone 15. I typically use Google Maps. I know that Google Maps is significantly older than Apple Maps, with Google launching its service in 2005 (evolving from a 2001 idea), while Apple introduced its own Maps in 2012 as the default for iOS, replacing Google Maps and facing heavy criticism for its initial poor quality.

still use google map

I use google map as it has my google credentials and contacts (such as share your location).
My experience on apple maps is, it accumulates some cache data which you can't purge easily. It seems to me, the more you use, the built-up gets bigger.

Neither

I prefer the Garmin navigation device, in my case a nuvi 2689. It seems more than adequate for my needs.

it is about iphone

I certainly use Garmin navigation as much as I can, leaving iphone for other uses.
But, this is about which maps you use on iphone

Google maps

Personally,

I use all three depending on the circumstances. Each one has its own quirks, so I will use Apple Maps for certain things, Google Maps for others, and Waze for others. Waze gives more information such as police presence, potholes, road hazards, that sort of things. The map is not as descriptive as Apple or Google. Which can be a plus or a minus, depending on what you are looking for.

Google Maps.......

on Mac laptop and on iPhone becasue they are similar on each device and therefor easier.

Split

I like the interface of Apple Maps better BUT in my experience Google Maps is way better dealing with real time traffic issues. Others may have a different experience.

Android user here

My iPhone coworkers use their iPhone with Google maps, but at my previous job the shuttle used Apple Maps, I assume because it was the default. I'd personally use Waze but between the two options here I'd pick Google Maps simply because of the more accurate traffic data and familiarity.

differing strengths and weaknesses

I have only had a smart phone for about four years and when it was new to me I made a practice of trying things both on Apple maps and Google maps with a view to figure out which was better.

My conclusion back then was that sometimes one was better and sometimes the other. The truth is I probably use Google maps more frequently but that is mostly because I'm used to using it on my PC.

Both

I use both to double check accuracy.

My primary nav source is the Garmin, backed up by Waze.

Speaking of Google Maps

…a new feature has recently been added. For the details and how to enable the feature see https://www.macrumors.com/2025/12/10/google-maps-latest-auto...

How is Google Maps this behind?

I know that technically a GPS is supposed to have more features especially since it needs selling points as a dedicated device, but Google Maps has really slowed down in making big improvements. Features like Real Directions (they're calling it Landmark Navigation), available on my 12 year old 2597LMT, are just being announced in beta last month by Google, and of course they're spearheading AI into it... Only real benefits I can notice w/Google Maps are better search and real-time traffic, otherwise I'd rather stick to old-school. Waze is better than Google Maps anyways, custom voices, custom cars, user incident reports (which is a double-edged sword) and feels more lively.
