I have been trying for a while to get this working I was happy when I was on I 95 and near a rest area and it went off but it was playing home on the range which was not in the restarea file, I was following Gare Hayman"s site so I usedthe computer to delete the POI file in my 2360 and also deleted the POI file on my computer then started anew downloaded restarea, Flying Js, Cracker Barrel, Low Overpass, used POI Loader to reinstall, now no alerts at all, my GPS setings, Nav, auto, POIs, alerts enabled and Custom POI green checked save. What am I missing should I backup all waypoints and routes and do a reset, then start anew
Sox
For the mismatched sound files, I had that happen when I went a newer version of Sox. When I went back to the old reliable 14.0.1 version, the problem went away.
As far as your current problem, all I can suggest is to verify that the sound & icon names match the POI filename exactly except for the extension. If you are using Windows, make sure your computer is set to show extensions for known file types just to be sure the filenames are correct.

get the correct version of sox from
http://www.poi-factory.com/images/csv/sox-14-0-1.zip
and make sure it is in the
/Program Files (x86)/Garmin/POI Loader folder
new window opened
I went to control panel folder options and changed the file setting then deleted the pois from the gps by way of the computer, I had the sox file but I deleted it and reinstalled then downloaded the poi files, then a window that I have never seen opened to say that I have downloaed 1057 pois but could not download Flying J and rest areas that is where I am now, going to drive by a Walmart to see what happens will ge back

Save some fuel.
I think, like other Nuvis, yours has a simulator mode to try out things like this without leaving your home. On my Nuvi 50LM I choose Settings;System;GPS Simulator;ON;OK;OK. From there I choose a location near my TourGuide and Simulate driving the route. The TourGuides and other alerts work like you were really driving past them.
