Traffic worked, I think

I have three Garmins, all old. I was using my 765t on a trip to Florida from South Carolina on Saturday and had the traffic work for the first time. We hit 2 bad spots on I-95. The first time the nuvi had no warning but we got off and re-routed. I am not sure it helped but at least we were moving. The second time, just as we came upon a spot where everybody was stopped our route changed and we were directed off. We followed the instructions which led to us getting back on at the next entrance where there was no issue. It seems that the nuvi saw the issue and re-routed us with no attention from me.

I've gotten lots of warnings over the years but this is the first time I got re-routed around the problem.

You must have "traffic"

You must have "traffic" checked in avoidances to get re-routed.

Congrat

Congratulations.

The traffic on my Nuvis (1390, 2360, 2495) have been working all along, reroute as it sees needed.

On the 2495, it would gives a warning ding a few miles out and offers a reroute and the estimated travel time of the route choices. I could choose to stick to the original route or the newly suggested route.

It's good to now that

It's good to now that traffic works. I recently picked up a used Dezl 760. It didn't come with the traffic cable but I ordered one from eBay. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but was hoping that it wasn't a waste of money.

I have seen issues with

I have seen issues with Navteq traffic data. I have not seen or experienced HD traffic yet. Right now I am using Garmin Smartlink for Live traffic and weather. Traffic flow info for highways seems to be pretty good in Toronto Canada but Navteq is missing lots of incidents on side roads and highways. Last Thursday night there was big section of highway 407 closed for construction. My Nuvi did not show construction closure at all. When I looked at Google map, it was showing the closure. In Downtown Toronto, lots of major road closures for construction but nothing showing up on my Garmin. When I look at the Garmin coverage map, all these roads are covered for incidents. I am still not too impressed with it.

,

Anytime my traffic on my 2595lmt shows an accident up ahead 1-3 miles, it is gone when I get there. I think it lags behind.

Traffic

I have learned that you have to take all alerts with a grain of salt.

Last Wednesday, before leaving work to go home, I checked trafficland.com for traffic conditions. The map showed a slowdown on I-664 on my route, right after I would get on. One thing to note: all the Traffic cams were greyed out along that stretch, so I couldn't visually check the roadway.

When I got into the truck, I immediately listened to the traffic on a local radio station. NO mention of a slow-down on that stretch. Once the Garmin found enough satellites to work, I hit the "Home" button. It immediately came back with an alert with a 2 minute delay. I thought it was not worth the re-route. So I proceeded on my usual route.

Well, there was no delay at all, but what I did notice on the other side of the highway was 2 guys working on one of the boxes that houses the electronics for the cameras and sensors. That explained the greyed out cameras and the false slowdown being displayed on Trafficland and the delay being reported to my Garmin.

The state supplies the traffic info to various entities and they supply the info to us. If the data from the state is incorrect, the data supplied to us is incorrect. So don't always blame your Garmin if the info is wrong.

"Traffic" has saved me from sitting in log jams many, many times. You just have to verify the reports if you can.

Garmin traffic has saved us many times on trips from Illinois to Florida, we just don't rely on the Garmin traffic alerts, when we are alerted, who ever is passenger, will use the phone and access the internet and access websites to view current traffic conditions, and view current traffic cams to verify traffic conditions if there available.

Garmin Live Traffic through

Garmin Live Traffic through Smartphone Link for highways is working pretty good. Yesterday I drive from Torotno to Niagara Falls and traffic flow info on QEW was bang on.

traffic worked for me

I have a new Nuvi w/traffic and on a trip a few weeks ago, we received a traffic alert while going through Little Rock. It told us where the problem was well in advance, and estimated the length of delay and the length of the re-route. The delay was less than the re-route and we stayed on the interstate. Things worked as predicted. We had stop and go for about 2 miles and the delay was maybe 5 minutes. Cost of the detour would have been 12 minutes.

Good to hear

I've followed a couple of re-routes ... some good, some bad. But it's nice to know traffic warnings are improving.
