New MotionX user

Long time Garmin Nuvi user, but Garmin 760 died last weekend, and Garmin no longer repairs them. I downloaded MotionX since I have an iPhone5 and a robust data plan. If there are any MotionX users here, any tips, tricks, or traps? I know the app is $0.99 but voice service for a year costs an additional $9.99 . That seems reasonable, vice Garmin lifetime map cost, etc.

Liking it so far

Used MotionX Drive for a vacation and a quick family trip. It works pretty well, although a little hard to see on an iPhone screen. iPhone speaker isn't loud enough so it needs to be hooked to car audio system. Used an old Garmin beanbag GPS mount with an adapter for holding smartphones (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBLJ53E/ref=oh_details_o...) at $10.95.

It's worth paying the $9.99 for a year of voice guidance, which also gives you additional features such as your current speed with a YELLOW or RED background depending on how far over the speed limit you are driving. System continued to work well when out of cell tower range for various periods, but it's not meant for backcountry navigation...as it's a driving app. It caches maps and can cache ones ahead of you when you're on a route. Search is very nice and flexible, speed is fast because it's cloud-based.

If you are currently using a GPS unit and it's long in the tooth, this app is worth a try. I would not use it for motorcycle navigation, but for typical automobile point A to B, with a need to find a gas station en route, for example, it works just fine.
